It is time now for a humorous blog. This shall tell you all we have noticed that seem to be suggestions. Not laws. Not statements. Suggestions. First of all the road: Lane markings. They are there. They tell you the minimumof vehicles that fit on a road. We have experienced twice that. Stop lights. If no ones there, keep going. When stopped, all motorbikes go to the front. 20-30 motorbikes are normal. Number of Passengers. Varies with the vehicles. Jeeps hold upwards of 25. Motorbikes hold 5 (children are allowed to drive). Buses have people on the top, hanging out the side, holding on the back. Normally if you can see the vehicle as it goes by, its not at capacity. Seatbelts. Eh. They are there. See Number of Passengers. Speed Limits. Again, occasionally they are ... read more

Namaste Readers! Alright, this is round 2 because the computer did not save round 1. I apologize in advance. I've got several days and adventures to catch you up on, so get ready to read! After Agra, we had a 6 hour ride to Ranthambore National Park. It was nice to finally be out of the city, but the last hour and half was spent on roads washed out by the monsoon. Ranthambore is beautiful. Our hotel was cute, but they had 2 nights of folk dancing and fire breathing. Which wouldn't have been bad, except it was the same thing. Both nights. And we had no idea the story behind the dance. It was accompanied by an awesome pasta bar, so not all bad. While in the national park we had 3 jeep safaris. Going ... read more

Okay, I have run out of clever adjectives to use to describe India while mocking their 'Incredible India' campaign, so I'm just going to use regular titles now. You can tell by the title of this one what's going to happen today. Hardev called this morning to say that the car had a big problem, which doesn't surprise me given how many speed bumps he'd hit at full speed or how many times we'd gone off-roading to pass a traffic jam, which I was fine with. But that car had taken a beating and I was surprised it got us this far. So the company was sending a replacement from Delhi that would pick us up in the morning. In the meantime, we would use an Ambassador (older model British car) taxi and driver today, and ... read more

After 4 days in Agra, we headed to Jaipur. We weren't quite sure what to expect from this city, with a population of around 4 million. After a hair-raising 4 hour car trip most of which was along a national highway (still a dusty, narrow, cow frequented road, just with more trucks) we arrived in Jaipur. We were both incredibly surprised how clean, well organised and pleasant (well on a scale of Indian cities) the city is. Day 1 involved walking around the city and visiting the Hawa Mahal which was constructed by the Maharaja for his wives to enjoy watching the city from the 5 storey high. The following day we visited the Amber and Nahargarh Forts, which sit high in the mountains surrounding the city. The views were incredible as is the history of ... read more

Jaipur -- #3 on our North Indian Adventure We flew on Kingfisher Airlines from Amritsar to Jaipur (via Delhi). Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan, a state in North Western region of India. Rajasthan is the biggest state in the country and the name means the Land of Kings (Raja = King & Sthan = Place). Jaipur was the first of 3 cities we visited in Rajasthan. Jaipur is named after the King Sawai Jai Singh, the founder of the city. It is famous as a tourist destination for its palaces and forts. There are other specialties like handicraft, jewelry, garments, precious & colored stones, furnishings and other craft items, which make Jaipur a shopping haven. Jaipur is among the first planned cities in modern Asia, with straight roads cutting each other at right angles, wide ... read more
