I remember it when I started understanding the meaning of trekking, what it actually meant to me. Since that day I was waiting to conquer these forts, A.M.K. aka Alang, Madan and Kulang, the three terrific forts in the Sahyadri range. These forts are famous for its rugged surrounding, rock patches requiring technical climbing, confusing routes having exposure to deep valley and most important; testing once endurance and stamina. But the main problem was unfamiliarity with rock climbing, rope management techniques.So I had no option but to go with an experienced trekking group. Murud, maharashtra For The Lord Ganesh holiday ( long weekend) of September 6-8 a group of teachers decided to rent a bus and head out to Murud off the western coast of India about four hours outside of Mumbai. We left Saturday morning at around 7 AM after several pickup locations ( first satellite towers then Oberoi woods and finally Elanza, my building!) The morning was chilly and wet as it had rained the night before. We rode on the highway towards South West Mumbai. The bus ride was smooth and uneventful some people slept while others were goofing around and listening to music. Why Murud- Janjira? 1) We wanted to take a 4 day vacation to a place that could be around a 3-4 hour drive from our home in Borivali, Mumbai. 2) It had to be a place with clean beaches and very few people. 3) Although most of our 4 days were meant for lazing around on the beach, we did not mind spending a day going around exploring the place we were staying in. Murud-Janjira met all these requirements- perfectly! Getting There:- Murud is exactly 170 km from Borivali's Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
