Venice of the East

Today after huge breakfast we set off on canal boat to see the stunning backwaters of Kerala known as "Venice of the East". This area of great natural beauty is interspersed with a network of canals, lakes and is also known for its toddy tappers, the beautiful Vembanand Lake and its associated backwaters border on the west to create this picturesque area. We saw the local people in villages carry out their daily routine of farming, fishing and swimming, we also saw the birds and aquatic life. We waved at the local children and they waved back, the guide told us they have boat races on certain months.

The boat ride was awesome and I was completely enchanted by the breath-taking scenery with Lush coconut trees, wild life and mind blowing greenery, I wish we could have stayed the night at this serene place as there are houseboats which anchor in the middle of the backwater lakes. They are luxurious boats with bedrooms and ensuite, you can rest at ease on a houseboat at night and observe the picturesque scenery while sitting on the deck during
the day. Food is cooked on board the houseboat by the accompanying staff. This is certainly my kind of holiday, I will definitely come back to the backwaters and stay in the houseboat.

We returned to our hotel and as usual we had a fantastic dinner. The tranquillity of the backwater area penetrated me to the bone that it had a very calming effect on me and I hit the bed. Kerala is very beautiful and I am loving every minute of my time there.
