Silvermine Beach Hotel
The hotel at Wo Mui on Lantau island we stayed at our first night Well, after a really long long flight, which was made bearable only by the good entertainment and actually pretty good food (as far as airplane meals go) we finally landed at Hong Kong International, then got the A35. The A35 was the scariest bus we've ever been on, crazy driver, rural hills, quite funny though.
Our hotel was right on Silvermine beach (right next to Mui Wo on Lantau island), was really nice, although it's only about 18 degrees or so here, sunbathing isn't really do-able, it is a mild T-shirt weather though.
Lantau island is a bit rural compared to Kowloon island and Hong Kong island, and we got a few stares off the local people, but overall they're pretty helpful. Mui Wo town is a bit more touristy with a McDonald's (BigMac meal is about HK$23 which as about 1.50 GBP, so pretty cheap, they also do a McFantastic, which is a proper grilled chicken breast in a bun made out of fried rice instead of bread), After spending a day on Lantau, we got the ferry over to Central on Hong Kong, and then the MTR (Mass Transit Railway, like the underground) up to Tsim Sha
Leanne on Silvermine beach
This is the view from Silvermine beach on Lantau, facing towards Hong Kong and Kowloon islands Tsui (Kowloon) and got off onto Nathan Road.
Kowloon, is okay, but it has far to many shops and signs, just signs everywhere, hundreds of men tauting tailored suits, watches, handbags even even hashish, whilst there the women all offer "Very good massage for very cheap price.". We found a tiny, and I mean tiny, hostel for $200 a night, so about 12 quid, we upgraded today and got one that's quite spacious, has a mini balcony and everything, all of 26 quid between us. On Kowloon we've been up to the Jade Market and Night Market, tried local food, looked across the harbour at Hong Kong city, but spent one night in an aussie bar and another in an irish one.
We went back to Lantau for a day to see it some more and went to see Big Buddha and the Po Lin Monastary at Ngong Ping, got some great shots, and some great landscapes when we went up to Wisdom path, on the way back we went into the tourist shops and got postcards etc, discovered two things,
1. They have almond snickers here. Imagine that a snickers, but with almonds in, really nice
Matt on Silvermine beach
Same as Leanne, this is the view from Silvermine beach on Lantau, facing towards Hong Kong and Kowloon islands, it looks colder than it is, it's 18 degrees with 84% humidity, really jetlagged here. it was.
2. They have Blueberry Extra here, blueberry chewing gum, and Ginger/Orange flavour airwaves. Blueberry chewing gum is especially good.
In a cafe now with free internet, but later we're off to get night shots of the harbour, still planning on doing Victoria peak in Aberdeen, then toward To Pai (fishing village), and we've still got Hong Kong island to do, but then we've been here 3 days, so we've still got time.
Take care all, Love Matt and Leanne
