Greetings, on Remembrance Day! We wore the poppies with pride today, as we toured around the City.
Oh what a night.........I loved my Princess Bed!!!! Had a great sleep, and was up and at 'em bright and early this morning. Had a fabulous workout in the fitness facility on the 41st floor of our hotel. Awesome view. Sun was coming up and was bright red in the sky. Had some company up there today..........Seth, Brenda, Klaus, Irene, and Mary Ellen. (we're all trying to balance out the food intake with the exercise, ha ha) It's an incredible facility; very up to date!
Then it was time for breakfast. Lots of choices, both Western and Asian. After breakfast, we still had some time to kill before the buses were leaving, so I decided to wander around outside for a little bit, to get a sense of what was around our hotel. I "happened across" a bridal party arriving at the hotel. Hey, what luck! I am posting the pictures so you can enjoy them too. I no sooner turned around, and there was my buddy Noel! (we had breakfast together) Well, we both really enjoyed chatting with the bridal party......the
bride is from Vancouver, as were some of the grooms-men! They were telling us about the wedding customs here; long day for everyone, as they start out at 5 a.m..........and they are still downstairs celebrating!!!! It's 5:10 p.m. Whew. I'd be exhausted. But hey, they're young! Noel and I were quite surprised that the grooms-men were in white shirts (not tucked in), blue jeans and running shoes, while the young ladies in the wedding party were dressed to the hilt. Times sure have changed. The guys were saying that they wanted to be comfortable, ha ha, and I'm sure they were!
Off to the buses and off we go for our tour. We enjoyed a brief (Star) ferry ride (it was a bit choppy for me, but I wasn't a wimp about it this year!)........got some great photos of both sides of the water. The buildings are amazing in Hong Kong........huge, towering, modern buildings! Breath-taking! Then it was off to Stanley Market, where everyone enjoyed an hour of shopping and bargaining. Most people came back on the bus with proud purchases in hand! Time to catch the water ferry (another slightly bumpy ride on the water, from my perspective.......)
and head to the Jumbo Floating Restaurant for a Dim Sum lunch. Yum! It was a great opportunity to sit back, chat and learn a little more about each other. We had gorgeous weather today!!!!! The food was awesome..........I missed the personal tutorial that we got from Alex last year about each of the food items, their preparation, etc. etc.! Lots of laughs and fellowship today. Back to the hotel by mid-afternoon, and everyone now has free time until we meet again in the morning.
It's a brief stay in Hong Kong, and I love it as much this year as I did last year. One of the ladies made arrangements to have a suit made (as I did last year); the tailors came to the hotel yesterday to measure her, etc. I missed that photo opp! Her suit is a royal blue! I will goal set to have that done on another visit.
Brenda and I spent a quiet hour together in her room, just chatting and visiting and having tea. It was nice. It's "girls' night out" for us tonight. Brenda, Carroll, Faye and I are heading out to wander the streets, shop, eat, laugh and
have some fun! Thus.........the end of this blog note, 'cause I must run!
(But now I'm back.......and what a fun evening we had! We walked the streets around the hotel, went to the Ladies' Market, learned some negotiation skills from Carl, made a few purchases, had a bite to eat, had lots of laughs and ended up at Starbucks for a Chai Latte, thus ending our evening. Such fun!)
I was going to end by saying have a nice weekend, but I've learned that this blog is being followed by people all around the world, so..........have a nice day then!
Note: there are a lot of pictures on this entry, so be sure to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the photos, and then click on the number 2 to see the remaining pictures.
(Good night, Mom. I love you!)
Happy, happy Pat!

Remembrance Day
Attended the Remembrance Day ceremony at West Edmonton Mall and wondered how you travellers were mindful of this day. Thanks to your blog, I know we were united across the miles via a small red symbol in tribute to true heroes. Thoroughly enjoying the pictures and learning about a culture and place I will never vist so thank you. You could tell Jan B that I'll find clothing two sizes larger on e-bay for her return home!
