This is the 4th ‘episode’ of another of 'our' travels. Once, the walls on these walkways would have not shown the 'base' earth brick materials, but have been (re)rendered in keeping with the town's wealth.

The Yunnan people grow gum trees on the roadside, both as a vehicle 'protection' measure (better to damage a car than a rice paddy), and they harvest the leaves for eucalyptus oil.

Most towns had water wells for residents. Note the 'grooves' on the inner sides denoting the wear over time.

We were told that the Confucian bureaucrat needed extra vision to cope with the enormity of the task.
