Govenment Square
The view from the dentists office was spectacular. I snapped this picture of the government building. It is built up on a hill with columns of flowers lining the stairs. Very impressive. We went back to tailor row after a short stop at the Korean dentist. My friend's tooth broke about a week and a half ago. She had to go back to get the crown put on. Since the dentist was close to Government Square, we decided to walk downtown, but not before she bought a pair of awesome navy blue boots with a gold zipper. How she wears spiked heels in the snow I have no idea, but she says she did it all the time in Russia, so I guess she is used to it. Me, personally, I'm an Uggs kind of girl. I don't actually own a pair of Uggs, but I plan on getting a pair. I will probably have to order them off the internet, sigh...
Anyway, the tailors did a fantastic job on altering my clothes. It is so nice not the have to wear that bulky belt and always have to hitch my pants up. I dropped off 4 more pairs and will pick them up next Sunday, since my other friend commissioned a short winter coat to be made by another tailor down the row from the tailor I use. She picked out
An Elementary School
From where I was sitting at at the dentists office, I had a fantastic view of an elementary school yard. It was Saturday, so no kids are in the picture. a really cute pattern and ordered it in a nice dignified gray wool. Very nice. Unfortunately, the bathrobe I ordered wasn't roomy enough in the hips, so I left it with the tailor to put in another panel so that there will be plenty of room in the hippage area.
On the way to the noodle shop I picked up this flute thing that was made from a dried gourd, pretty cool. I'm gonna send it home in the Christmas box, actually it will probably be more like New Years before I send it off.
Of course, we had to stop at my favorite noodle shop. This time the chef came out and talked to us because he recognized my, "no this, no that, NO MSG order." He just came out to say, "I knew it was you!"
By the time we finished, my son met us and bummed around with us a little bit. I have been using the cushions off of the couch since I got here because the bed is so HARD and I mean HARD! I found an air mattress that was being sold on the street. It was was a pretty good
The View to My Left
This is the view to the left of the dentist's office. price for the quality, so I picked it up. I'll get it pumped up later and see how it goes. I sure hope it is a viable solution. I would like to get the cushions back on my couch again. It looks kind of trashy right now with half the cushions missing.
Finally, we decided to go to The Small Commodities Market, but it was closed by the time we got there. It closes at 5 PM, who knew? Anyway, there was this guy in the front of the market that had one of those full length Chinese/Russian style military coats. I couldn't get him to lower his price too much, just by 2 quai, but I was desperate. The wind had picked up and I was wearing a blanket I had purchased like a cape. I looked like a mess, but who cares, as long as you're warm, right? I guess he knew he had me over a barrel, since I came into the shop wearing the blanket, huh? I just now figured that one out. DUH!
After we left The Small Commodities Market, we took a bus down the road a bit and got off near
A View of the Harbor
This is a fantastic view of the harbor in Weihai. There was a dock with a boat. A line of people were boarding the boat. My friend said that the boat would take them to the island across the harbor or maybe to another province. the USB Cafe and had something warm to drink. We met back up with my son at the cafe where I ordered the lavender tea for 28 quai. After a stop at a bakery (they had a BOGO sale) we made our way to the night market. On the way there, we weren't sure if we wanted to stop at a book store on the 3rd floor of a building on the corner, but we decided against it since we were running short on time. (The buses quit running at 9PM.) So, we were in the parking lot making our way to the night market and this lady backs up and hits my friend. I quickly pulled her out of the way and started yelling at the lady for being such a bad driver. OK, here is the kicker, she had a video camera installed in her car and she still hit her! I'm telling you, these people all need to go to driving school, American style or Brittish style driving school, that is, because their driving skills are absolutely abominable. (Don't get me started on the bus driver that takes us home everyday. Believe me, you don't want to
Dressed up like an old lady playing the flute...
Here I am, pretending to play the flutie thing. Our table was right near the entrance, so I bundled up the best I could with my shirt, sweater and scarf/shawl. go there!) It turns out my friend was fine and the lady just kind of slunk away when no one was looking.
The whole purpose for going to the night market was to pick up some more spirulina. There is a little pharmacy on the street that has the best price in Weihai. The same brand goes for 99 quai at Jusco, which is actually closer to my house. The clerk thanked me for my customer loyalty, which was kind of odd for this culture (as far as I can tell, customer service skills - like what I'm used to in The States - are kind of weak.)
Meanwhile, my son got lost in the hustle and bustle of the night market crowd. So, we got on the bus once we hit the end of the street and believe it or not, when we got off at out stop, there he was, sitting on a bench! He had gotten on another bus before us and had just got off at the stop and was resting before he trudged home. How about that?
