Hi Loyal followers,
So our morning plans were to get up early and head to breakfast, this disappeared when we decided to have a lie in, so breakfast was skipped and we packed to get our pick up to our river Li trip at 8am.
Our bus was late (typical) but eventually arrived and we boarded, it was packed and we managed to get the last 2 seats. Once on the train, I managed to get some ladies attention, she lent over and said my son thinks your very handsome and strong (kid was 3 years old), this was the 5th lady in 12 hours to show me attention. (Vick laughed but has been giving me extra attention all day).
Our tour guy was a nice guy and was very animated!! When we got there he said to meet at the pier in 10 mins to go, I managed to get some noodles for breakfast while Vick had a wee, we all made it apart from two english talking people, this was annoying as the guy made us wait 15 mins for them to turn up, which they didn't. We ended up
with the tour guide which was good as he pointed out sights to us. The river was truly beautiful and a person like me unfortunately does not have the vocabulary to explain it!!! We were on the river for about 1 hour 30 mins, the weather was almost perfect, sunny but with a bit of mist. The photos are amazing hope you like them.
We arrived at Xiping, a stop off where we changed to another bus to get to our days final destination in Yangzhou. So the bus dropped us off the furthest distance possible from our hostel (typical), we hiked all through Yangzhou until we eventually found the hostel, Huw Flowers hostel. First impression was it looked run down compared to the other near it, however it looked nice inside and the room we got is nice as well (apart from the shower head not being attached). First problem was they didn't have our booking and tried charging Vick 3 times the agreed price, I was at the cash point trying to get cash, Chinese banks don't like British cards!!! Eventually we sorted it out and paid less than we expected. (bargain)
We headed out to the town and after looking around found a restaurant for lunch, the only reason we went there was two white people said it was good. We found out it was not, it was average food, drinks tasted strange and my milkshake had plastic in it, still no apology or offer for discount!!! Vick was fuming but it's impossible to argue with the Chinese out here!!!
We then headed for a look around, we found this amazing back road full of market stalls and street food. (why could we not have found this first) We looked at all the trinkets and some amazing art shops where its so cheap but still amazing (wish we didn't have 11 more months carrying stuff around-we want it all). We met this German couple who were on the trip with us and had a good chat and planned to meet up for a drink later.
So we are just heading out for dinner now, had a few hostel beers so both merry and looking forward to some good street food!!
Thats all people!! Love N&V X
