Chris's Section We're currently in Guilin having flown from Xi'an earlier today. Yesterday we visited the Terracotta Warriors, which are located just outside Xi'an. We didn't take a tour this time as we wanted to save a few quid and do it at our own speed. We got a bus to the train/bus station (1 yuan - 10p) and looked for the green Terracotta minibus - as listed in the Lonely Planet (or 'the book' as we call it). We found the minibus easily enough and it only cost 7 yuan (70p). Not bad for an hour's journey. Everything seemed to be going fine until the driver stopped after 45 mins and asked us where we were going. The fact that this was a Terracotta Warrior bus should have made this a redundant question! Through dodgy interpretation from a fellow passenger (again, we were the only westerners on the bus) we were told to get off the bus, walk up a street and get on the number 306 bus. Apparently the Terracotta minibus doesn't actually go to the Terracotta Warriors. WTF?!?!
Anyway, we found the 306 bus. We then realised this bus goes from Xi'an and actually to the
Warriors. China can be so confusing. So, if anyone reading this wants to see them, get the 306 bus from outside the train station. It's also 7 yuan.
Anyway, the Warriors were good, but a slight anti-climax. A bit pricey too at 90 yuan (£9). I'd seen so many pictures before it wasn't anything new. Still, just one of those things we had to see in China. We made it back easily on the 306.
We have another night in Guilin before setting off just down the road to Yangshuo, where we'll spend 5 days. First impressions of Guilin - less smog, much greener, more rural, less chaotic. Tomorrow we'll have a better idea once we get a chance to mooch about.
Louise's Section I was sad to leave Xi'an as so far (even though others have said they didn't like it), this is the one city I loved, reminded me of New York with all the shops open at night. I finally managed to buy a tiny sun tan lotion from the Nivea section in their department store for about £4.50!!! Yep that was the cheapest but so badly needed it so I thought, until
we arrived in Guilin to rain! It was actually wonderful stepping off the bus to pouring rain even though it was still 30 degrees.
It looks a bit run down here but hostel is ok and wait for it..... has 2 8 week old kittens called little black and little white, these are now my favourite ones. Chris and I are both knackered and all limbs need a rest from lugging the packs nearly a mile a day sometimes ,so chilling tonight and watching the Sopranos then mooching into Guilin centre tomorrow. There are massive green hills all around here so hopefully no mist or rain tomorrow and some more brilliant views.
For those that like the funny stuff only two things happened today to me, person threw up on the plane and when I was leaving I wasn't aware they had managed to hit the top of the chair I then grabbed hold off ewwww!!! Hand sanitizer out immediately and half a bottle nearly gone then a woman in the loo spat her phlegm out and it got my shoe, cue more phlegm reaction wretching from me! Hoping the Thai's don't do this but reckon I won't
be so lucky.
Love to all at home
