So Monday morning we luckily managed to wake up in time albeit a little tired and hungover and got our boat over to the Island we were staying on for 3 nights. When doing some research about Sihanoukville we read someone else's blog where they had stayed in this Jonty's Jungle camp and it sounded amazing. The boat was only about 45 minutes and arriving was pretty weird as we couldn't see anything apart from Jungle, we could see one resort with little bungalows, but we weren't heading for that one we were heading to the bushes! As we got nearer, you could see a little path and then gradually you could see the treehouses hidden amongst all the jungle, ah it was amazing!! There was a large dining table where everyone ate together, the kitchen next to it, a round wooden hut which was a sauna, then the wooden huts for a toilet and shower (which was more a large bucket of water you throw over yourself) then amongst all this pathways were the treehouses hidden away! There was no electricity, had lights for the kitchen and toilet which was solar powered and that was about it. We had booked
to stay in hammocks for 2 nights so they took us round to room 2 where our hammocks were, although I think bush 2 was more appropriate, just two hammocks strung up amongst the bushes, amazing. They weren't like normal hammocks though they were sturdy US army hammocks which a mosquito net attached, so we tested them out and after a bit of fidgeting it was pretty comfy, so comfy in fact we fell asleep! Haha! Woke up in time to explore a bit and then join everyone to watch the sunset as the beach is in perfect view for the sunset 😊 everyone just sits along watching it go down then heads back inside (ie inside the jungle) for dinner. Its really nice as everyone sits down to eat together, all the staff and guests. There must be about 8 staff western and cambodian and there were about 7 other guests. After dinner and a little chatting everyone starts to go off to bed (About 8pm!!) We stayed up for a little way chatting but the mosquitoes are far too annoying, they were everywhere!!! Even with repellent on! So around 9.30pm we went off the brave the hammocks. Was
pretty disorientating when you first get it as its so dark out and you cant see much but you can feel yourself slightly swaying, but you settle pretty quickly. The noises you can hear are crazy, so loud some of them and you get paranoid about bugs being inside the hammock, but I think we were ok.
Woke up a few times in the night but finally got up about 8am which is very early for us!! The days were spent just relaxing on the beach, reading, swimming, snorkelling and sleeping - well snorkelling for Ste and sleeping for me 😊 That evening the other guests had left and it was us and this Austrian couple who were pretty cool. Another really nice evening with amazing food and another very early night.
Wednesday morning well in the night I had a bit of a shock and woke up to find I couldnt open my left eye!! I put my hand up to feel it and oh my god it was huge and swollen and soooo sore!! I was half asleep so I didnt really pay much attention but when I woke up properly I got my mirror out
and yes I had a huge swollen left eye! I got out of the hammock to show Ste who was just as shocked! It was awful! have no idea what it was, maybe a bite, maybe an allergic reaction, but it was pretty horrible. Took some antihistamines and used some cream and it gradually reduce throughout the day! Nightmare though, one thing after another with us! Apart from that little scenario we had another amazing relaxing day. We had now moved to a treehouse as the hammocks were being used that night by the owners family who were coming out the stay, his 75 year old mum was sleeping in a hammock! Crazy! Out treehouse was gorgeous, like the bungalows but no front wall so all open so you could just lie in bed and watch the sea 😊 had a little terrace so after a morning of swimming and getting cooked on the beach (soooo hot) we relaxed on our terrace. That evening was pretty good fun as Jontys family had arrived, his two sisters and their 3 children and his mum, so was a really nice atmosphere that night.
Unfortunately Thursday morning we were leaving to go
back to the mainland, so said our goodbyes and boarded our boat back.
Was a perfect few days though, despite all the mosquito bites we have both come back with, but we are nice and relaxed, detoxed and ready for some xmas parties now 😊
Lots of Love
