HCMC from our balcony It seems I am not the best blogger as I spend most of the time having to play catch up. I have been in Cambodia 10 days now and my schedule beckons me as I am leaving for Bangkok (Thailand) on the overnight bus and should be arriving 15 hrs later, although it is just another city I am looking forward to going as I hope to be catching up with a friend who lives there and it would be great to see a familiar face, secondly I got my visa for Myanmar (Burma)yesterday and I have a flight on Sunday 4th to Yangon.
For now though I am still in Cambodia and first things first I want to blog about my last few days in Vietnam and brag about what a wonderful country Cambodia is, unfortunately I am not able to spend as much time here as I would have liked but somehow I think I am moving onto an equally as exciting place as Cambodia.
So there we have the plot so far, so for now I shall rewind to my last few days in Vietnam, which took me to Saigon or HoChi Min City, (depending where
Floating puppet show
We all make mistakes you are). At this point I was still with my other travel buddies but our time as 6 was waining as Archie and Nikol were heading back home. As for HCMC, we survived the traffic, rode the rickshaw, went to the War Remnants Museum, Reunification Palace, a water puppet show (oh why?) and I brought the Good Morning Vietnam T-shirt.
Once all the highlights was out of the way and we said goodbye to the Greek contingent the 4 of us made a break for the border with a pit stop in Can Tho on the Mekong Delta, where we did a river cruise and where just about everything was floating from markets to petrol stations and of course rubbish. Then it was grab the backpacks for our stop over in Chau Doc which is the border town for Cambodia and our last night in Vietnam. Here we had our last supper of frog and (very tasty it is too) and the next day hoped on the boat to Cambodia where even the border control was on stilts. Here was a little disappointing as we had visions gliding into Phnom Penh in our chug boat but we were ushered
Can Tho
On the river banks of the Mekong Delta off at the border and after formalities then ushered onto a bus to complete the last leg of the journey and arrived rather uncerimonisaly in Phnom Penh.
Arriving here was for one reason only this time round and that was to get my visa for Burma which I did the following day and the other guys moved onto Sihanoukville, where I would catch them up. Unfortunately the visa took longer than anticipated and when I asked if I could pay more to speed things up a bit, the government official thought I was bribing her, at that point I thought I was going to get deported out of Cambodia. Hey ho there was more than enough things to keep me busy her in Cambodia anyway but I had to change the flight I had previously booked for the 29th August.
Here endeth the lesson for Vietnam and shall write another blog for my adventures so far in Cambodia, thanks for reading and catch up very soon Jannet
