Si Pahn Don to Kratie (Cambodia)

Hi folks,

Currently I am grounded (yes, I know... again) in Siem Reap, this time with a kinda naughty infection in my foot. But no worries, thanx to Chinese doctors and some antibiotics I am fine and just decided to chill out for a while and get over with this infection before I head on.

OK... last time I was writing from Laos. The border crossing was a nice little adventure, but no drama. First with a canoe from Don Det to the mainland, then waiting until enough people are together for a minivan -i.e. 20 people in a 12 seater :-))) - then about a half hour drive, change into a Sawngthaew and another half hour on a dirt track, me holding on at the back. Then comes customs on the Laos side ($1 "fee" to get an exit stamp, no receipt), and 3 minutes walk to the Cambodian side. There one gets the visa for $22, which is much cheaper then most people paid at various places. Another $2 "fee" and Welcome to Cambodia.

Via various transfers, minivans and ferries I finally arrived in Kratie. This town is halfway through to Phnom Penh and is famous for the region's last remaining freshwater Irrawaddy dolphins, which one can see about 15 kms north.

Because I had a serious amount of party on Don Det and this town seemed to be quite, I opted for a necessary 3-day-break. The guesthouse also had satellite TV in every room so I just relaxed and watched some movies. On day two I went to see the dolphins. We saw quite a few but my battery was running flat. The photo shows the last shot I was able to make. Kinda luck I got it right :-)))

Hallo mal wieder!

Ich haenge gerade mal wieder fest. Diesmal in Siem Reap, Kambodscha, da wo Angkor Wat ist. Diemal ist es eine gar garstige Infektion am Fuss, die aber mittlerweile dank Chinesischem Doktor und einem Cocktail von Antibiotika unter Kontrolle ist.

Das letzte mal schrieb ich ja von Laos. Ich bin also am naechsten Tag von Don Det ueber die Grenze nach Kambodscha. War ein spannender Trip: erst mit'm Kanu auf's Festland, dort warten bis genug Leute zusammen sind um einen Minibus vollzupacken (d.h. 20 Leute in einen 12-Sitzer :-))) ), nach halber Stunde Fahrt in ein umsteigen in ein Sawngthaew, weil die Hoperpiste dem Bus nich so gut bekommen wuerde. Ich natuerlich wieder hinten, auf der Pritsche stehend und mich guuuuut festhalten. Die junge Leut hamm halt einfach kein Respekt vor dem Alter :-))))) Aber nee nee, wie Ihr Euch denken koennt, hab' ich mir das schon selber so ausgesucht.

Dann kommt der Laos-Grenzposten: $1 "Gebuehr". HA jetzt hab' ich endlich mal Offizielle bestochen :-))). Auf der Kambodschanischen Seite waren's da nochmal $2 "Gebuehr" und alles Paletti. Via diversen Transportmitteln ging es dann nach Kratie, einer kleinen Stadt auf halbem Wege nach Phnom Penh. Hier hab' ich mich dann erstmal 3 Tage von dem ganzen Party-Stress erholt. Dank Satelliten TV konnte ich mich dann auch mal wieder auf den neuesten Stand des Weltgeschenens bringen. Ist schon eine Schande, wie die die arme Paris Hilton einsperren tuhen :-))))

Von Kratie aus kann man auch mit'm Motorrad 15 km noerdlich die vom Aussterben bedrohten Irrawaddy Suesswasser delphine beobachten. Natuerlich war meine Batterie fast leer, aber eine guten Schuss hab' ich denn doch hingekriegt. Glueck muss man haben :-))

Aussie Remindings
Hallo Uwe, Katrin und ich haben am WE wieder in Reiseträumen geschwelgt. "Da war ich auch..." war dann öfters zu hören, als sie deine Texte und Bilder las. Und schon hatten wir beide wieder den Wunsch mal wieder ins Ausland zu gehen. Hach.....wäre jetzt gerne mit auf Tour. Pass auf dich auf! Petra.
