Morning walkers
Tuesday pulled into Salay a 7,000 resident village founded in 13thCentury with very British colonial feel with lovely preserved old buildings and in fact our tour director has renovated a beautiful building and it now houses a museum, restaurant and shop. Had a great feel to the place with lots of young novice monks around town. There was procession of all decorated vehicles and everyone dressed in beautiful dress, a ceremony for the new novice monks and also for the young girls ear piercing. We visited a beautiful old wooden monastery designed as a copy of the Crown Prince House of Mandalay. Great to see a slightly different town. Afternoon sailing the Irrawaddy.

Wednesday Magway by trishaw to local market. This is quite a big city 500,000 people. Great way to see around Magway in the trishaw then to Myat Than Lun Paya pagoda. Along our travels around town kids came running from everywhere to get a glimpse of us, so funny, waving madly! Couple of dark beers at the local bar across the road from the river then back to boat but was greeted with "wait a minute", no gangway and turning boat around, we were stuck there for

about an hour and missed happy hour, they had a lot of trouble anchoring the boat but finally got back on board at 7.00p.m. just in time for dinner.

Lovely to hear from you, we are yet to find out what salary the boat boys get but John onto it, they not allowed to discuss it, so must be very low! The novice monks we reckon they were about 8-10 years old....far too young! Last night on the boat tonight then head to Yangon (Rangoon) xx
