THAYETMYO
Off we go again! Docked last night at this cute little village Thayet Myo and went ashore for a walk around town all very quiet. This morning a hive of activity as the local market was on and people going about their daily chores and shopping, then headed off for our excursion on horse drawn carts...don't want to miss anything but my god was it a rough ride...both got off with cracked backs and our horse played up something terrible....tried to bolt and the driver took all his might to pull it up but was very pleasant ride through the countryside out to the first ever golf course in Myanmar(affiliated with St Andrews Scotland) don't know how many people play here ...looked a bit abandoned to us but the greens all looked pretty good and we had a putting competition before returning to town. We have been on all modes of transport this trip.
Set sail to head further downstream to Pyay and Sri Ksestra township and their museum...Pyay is big trading port for goods travelling between north and south Myanmar. Sri Ksestra was walled city and they have excavated a lot of really old relics including coins, jewellery, carvings etc being from 2nd to
THAYETMYO
This cute kid was here last night and again this morning on the walkway from the boat to the village 9th century. A fairly basic museum but nonetheless very interesting. Visited a very old stupor from that era and then to another pagoda with views over the city of Pyay. Back on the boat, farwell cocktails and dinner as is our last night on the boat and then go to Yangon by bus tomorrow. Farwell dinner was sensational, the food that is produced from the small kitchen on the boat is unbelievable...every night 4 courses with 4 choices in each. Its unusual here with cars on the roads, they can have both left and right handed drive, but we mainly saw right handed drive but they drive on the right side, weird!!! I think it is a very magical time to have come to Myanmar, the river boats have only been going about 3 years, so the beautiful villages along the river are virtually untouched by tourism....a pommy couple were here about 4 years ago and they say it has changed dramatically so can only imagine what it will be like in another few years.
Friday - not so magical today from Pyay 6 hour bus ride down to Yangon....kitchen packed us lunches so had that en route with
