I skipped breakfast on Sunday& got up at about 10. We were due to go to a local catholic church but we ended up not going as we thought it would be boring. We asked some previous volunteers where they went to church & they recommended one to us. We got a taxi there & it ended up being really good. It was a huge church but the building didn’t really look like one. There were a few mzungus there, one was the pastor who’d been living in Africa for 8 years & was from America. The singing was really cool but kind of the same service & stuff as back at home. The only difference was the songs & sermons were in Swahili with a translator translating everything. The songs were really lively; there were a group of children lined up along the side with really good dance moves. We found out later that they were all from kili kids, a local orphanage. The same taxi man - Tommy boy, picked us back up & we went home. After a shower we decided to go to unique batik. Bridget, Shelby, Caroline, Meghan, Theresa, Caitlin, Trev & I all got in 2 cabs & drove to the shop. We drove outside it & found out it was closed, we were all gutted, I’ve never been before & really wanted to go. Instead we went to the craft/art place we went to on the first day. It was a bit like the Massai market but smaller. We stayed there for a while & bought some more pointless souvenirs. Bridget & Theresa then got a taxi home & the rest of us got the taxi to Moshi town. We stayed in the Tanzanian coffee lounge for about 4 hours. I love it in there & it was actually quite fun. We didn’t do much, just drank lots of coffee. Most of them went on the internet but I didn’t as I went on the day before while Sheila & Trev were getting their hair done. We then went down to another shop (they all look the same & sell the same stuff here.) I bought some lush shoes & after a while of shopping we walked down to the same restaurant we were in on Friday. Caroline had left by then, she wanted to go home. So Trev, Caitlin, Meghan, Shelby & I ate at the Indoitaliano. I had loads of food, too much actually; the egg fried rice was lovely. It was a good meal & I feel like I got to know them all a bit more, it’s just a shame we have to say goodbye so soon. We then went to the hotel that they stayed in on Friday - the Kinderoko. It’s a basic hotel but it’s got a lovely bar. We walked up 4/5 flights of stairs & sat in a bar that looks over Moshi. We had 2 funny named cocktails & borrowed a pack of cards from the bar man. We played them for a while then got a cab back home. We were back by 9. We played some cards, had a wander around the home base (as we seem to just sit on the same table every night we decided to explore the gardens.) then we went to sleep at 10ish. It was a good relaxing day overall & I enjoyed it. Kwaheri! (goodbye)
Caitlin : ) x
