Hamjambo everyone! This week has ended very successfully with an AMAZING safari.

A group of ten of us went to Ngorongoro Crater this weekend, and camped out by the rim of the crater. The first day, we saw EVERY single animal one expects to see in Africa. Our guide was extremely nice, we all had dinner with him last night, his name was "Godbless",. We were extremely lucky, because we saw a black rhino (extremely rare and endangered), and a cheetah, which crossed the road right in front of our landrover! I've never seen so many zebra in my life. The crater is beautiful, I can't wait to actually show pictures to you all. \the crater is so amazing, simply because it is a relatively small area as composed to the Serengeti. We saw a few elephants, but the real elephant story happened the next day. We spent the whole day in the crater, and then went to a camping site (we slept in tents, it was freezing), had some good dinner, then as myself and 3 other volunteers were walking to the bathroom, we ran into a herd of ZEBRA. they were all around us, and it was completely dark outside. They were very calm though, we just walked through them. 😊

side story: two other ccs volunteers had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, went to the bathroom, and a big cat, maybe a bobcat or a leopard, was outside the bathroom door growling, so they spent the night in the bathroom. 😊

we woke up the next morning, were getting in the car, and and ELEPHANT literally walks up to our car from behind the bushes.we all scream and get out, and he's about 10 feet in front of us. i got a good video of it. 😊 he found someone's purse and stole bananas, very typical. it was amazing.

\then we pulled out of the drive and, what do you know, there was a full-grown male lion walking beside our car, i got video of that to. \it was about 100 yards away from our tenting sight.

\we spent half the day in lake Manyara, where there were tons of giraffe and elephant herds. Lots of hippos too. 😊

then we stopped at a Massai boma on the way back to moshi, and the massai gave us a traditional dance and invited us into their bomas. i got video and pictures of that too!

\a few days ago we went to Neema orphanage for children up to age 3. It was very heart-braking, but they are very well taken care of. One house had about 15 toddlers, awake and roaming about. \then we went to another house and there were about 15-20 infants just lying about on mattresses and being fed. we held them for about 2 hours, it was wonderful but very sad. I'll be going back this week to see them again.

\my placement is going very well, there are 3 teenagers that come in after the children leave wanting to learn english, so Mama Antonia and I have an hour long english lesson with them. The schoool is right next to a huge catholic church. \i've got to go, hope everyone is doing well! the internet at the homebase is broken so that's why i'm not on as often as i'd like. Family- feel free to call me anytime after 7:00 my time, which would be 12:00 pm your time. The number is on the fridge in mom's house, and dad you have one too, it's on the sheet.

love you all very much!!!!
