Day 1 of the Moshi Safari For Souls campaign 2008
1 Baptism: Mama Daniel (Melania)

Today was the first day of the Moshi campaign, and for those of you who have been here during a campaign you know that means up early and to bed late, but an amazing day in between! We left the house early to pick up campaigners at the hotel and arrive at the building for Chai (hot tea) and Bread gathering together with the local brethren, and those who travel from near and far to come and help spread the gospel. Cy Stafford & Carey Samford came down from Arusha to help and brought several memebers of the Arusha Congregation to help with translating and the door to door campaign. Our visitors from America included Robert Russell and Ken Upchurch with their 5 girls from Kensington Woods in Mississippi: Lesie (Robert's grand daughter), Sarah Capley, Jana, Brittany Anderson, & Sara Beth (her first trip over) Then we had Fred & Penny Cabler here to help, who are regulars to the campaigns here inTanzania, The Jensen Family and their guest, Lydia Purdam, and Callie Donaldson who is here staying with us, the Richardson Family. So we

We had a great study with a lady working a small cafe and duka near the preaching grounds
had a great team in place. We were joined by several of the Bible School students and local brethren from Moshi, all in a collective effort to go out and teach the truth in love!

About 8 teams were formed with around 5-6 in each group, usually 3 Americans and 2 Tanzanians, and Christopher, George and Brent sent everyone out into various areas of Soweto, the area surrounding the church building. So from 10-2 the teams were out conducting the door to door, person to person campaign, holding Bible Studies and covering a large area in the process. The missionaries usually drive the groups to their locations and end up getting to join the final group they drop off as part of the Bibel Study team.

Everyone returned back to the building for a late lunch of rice, and michicha (greens) along with a meat and vegtable stew like mix... and avacados! Sharing their stories of the day!

I was thrilled to see Mama Daniel at the building, she's the older lady that Brent & I have been studying with, that lived so far out and we went to her home to teach her adn her daughter Anita, about the Gospel. Well she's come to worship the past two Sundays and to wednesday Bible class as well, and now was there for the first day of the campaigns, as I looked over to see her working in the outdoor kitchen helping to prepare the meal for everyone as we arrived back at the building! She came straight over to me, excited to just be there and be a part of what was going on. And she was ready to Study the Bible More! I had a study set up that I was had a great study, seaded to with 3 of the KW girls, so I went over to Ken and asked if he would continue to study with Mama Daniel, and he and Desderee, sat down with her to open up God's word and let it prick her heart! The girls and I continued on to our study, with a little Duka owner who works and lives near the preaching grounds where the campaign was being held. We had a great study with her, and I was thrilled to be able to be there, starting to open this new door with her and her friends, 5 ladies in all that work in this area. Then as we returned to the grounds as the preaching was about to begin, we heard the good news, that Mama Daniel had been baptized following her study with Ken, and I couldnt have been more excited! That just made my whole day! But of course her living so far out she had to leave early to return home before dark So I wasnt able to hug her neck as I had hoped! But I was overjoyed and knew she had been close to obeying the gospel for some time now.

We had a few minor technical difficulties with the speakers and microphone system so we began to sing for the hour that proceeded the outdoor preaching. George Jensen will be the speaker for the week here in Moshi, and he did a wonderful job of teaching about having the right attitude in our lives towards God and our view of God and need for Him. I look forward to the lessons to come! We had a great veiw of t Kilimanjaro in the backdrop of the "Kanisa la Kristo" platform and the day was just amazing! To God be the Glory!

We had everyone over to the house here afterwards for a good old fashioned bowl of Texas chili, let the girls all use the phone and internet to touch base with everyone back home and George went to pick up a couple new guests from the airport so that we can wake up and begin again tomorrow morning.

Thank you all for making this possible. Please continue to be inpray for the weeks to come and the great things God has in store for His church here in East Africa!

In His service & Love,
Brent & Julie Richardson and family
