Day 8 – a Sad day in history.

We are starting our trip back and the weather turns from the previous delight fully two sunny days to an overcast and rainy day.

We manage to pack our tents and most of the other stuff before the rain starts, but by the time the bikes are packed and we had our oats and coffee we are soaked.

The previous evening there was another couple with kids in the camp close to us as well. They watched our packing saga and when we met them at reception when checking out, in good spirit but wet. There comment to us was” you guys must be hardened campers” and this made us realise how adaptable the human being can be. When we left home we were not hardened campers at all, but with a positive attitude we developed during our trip thus far there was little which could distract from the amount of fun we were having.

We went to Peter, our skipper to say good bye and were off to Vilanculos. The rain stopped, but as we entered Vilanculos it suddenly started pouring again. Everyone in the town was running

for cover, the hawkers covered their stuff and I noticed one guy covering his chickens which he had in a cage on the pavement with a peace of plastic.

At the filling station there was a bakkie loaded with people and a lot of potato chips, like Simba chips. The driver found a big plastic sheet and we were glad for the people on the back who would now at least be partially sheltered from the rain. This feeling was only for a fleeting moment when we noticed that the plastic was to cover the sealed chips packets and not the people. I guess priorities are different for different people.

As soon as we drove inland for a few kilometres the rain stopped and it became a delightful day.

We pushed hard and managed to reach Zavora well before sunset.

Not much more to tell you about the happenings of this day and therefore the Quote for the day:

Rushing through life and striving to reach your goal can and probably will deprive you of the things which makes life worth living.
