My time is no longer my own…anyone that has a child, or takes care of children realizes that really quickly. I used to have time to sit and think of the creative content I would put into an update…now I am consoled if I can write an update before it is old news. We, the Lawrences, spent a wonderful time in the states over the holidays. We had the opportunity to speak at some wonderful churches, to share about the work with which we partner here in Kenya, as well as had time to enjoy family and friends. The lavish generosity poured out upon us was truly incredible. Since returning we have continued to be blown away at God’s provision through His generous people. We are thankful for hearts like yours, that see a need and ... read more

Visit to Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage What an excruciating "start" to the vacation!!! We left Chennai at 6:00 pm and landed inMumbai's International Airport around 9 pm only to be told that we would only be let in only 3 hours before our flight - which meant we had to wait for 3 hours. We finally left India around 3:30 am - 30 minutes late and landed in Nairobi around 7 am. We cleared immigration and customs and met our driver/guide George around 7:45 am - an hour later than scheduled. George was going to take us on our safari the next 5 days and he showed us our safari-ready van with its open roof. We exited the airport in this van and hit the road to Nairobi. The wildlife hit us right away. Adjacent to the ... read more

Jambo I am going to talk about Esther today, a wonderful kind, generous, intelligent lady who works for the same company as me. Esther has lived in Nairobi all of her life and can only speak highly of it, she loves it and could not think of anywhere else she would rather live and I love her attitude about her own country. Esther works hard, she is a marketing assistant who works Monday - friday 9-5 like most of us and then she goes to college straight from work every single day until 8pm and then comes home and cooks for herself. At weekends she travels to Mombassa where he Husband lives as this is where he has a job, she leaves after college at 8pm and returns very early on a Monday morning. I said ... read more

I met a new team today, these guys are to be the Nairobi Fire Wardens. - here is a picture of them Mike and I trained the team in what fire is, how it starts and how to put it out etc, they were a great bunch, very friendly and asked me alot about the UK economy. They were interested in wages and what the minimum wage was, when I explained this to them they thought WOW that is alot of money, but then I explained the cost of living, mortgages, Council tax, bills etc - they nearly fell off of their chairs. They said I would be rich if I lived in their country as many people can live on 1-2 US dollars a day. For the price of my Maisonette in Langley I could ... read more

Jambo (Hi) Have been to the Nairobi Office today, We have been organising the fire training for the staff and preparing the manual handling course for Uganda next week. I spied some construction workers today climbing all over scaffolding today without any harnesses, If they fell they would be gone... very dangerous. There are many street sellers here, they walk up and down the road with anything that they have to sell, in the middle of the road, it could be anything, newspapers, dresses, knickers, water, cd's, boomerangs - literally anything, - can you imagine people walking barefoot up the M4 selling all this stuff :) there would be even more mayhem than there currently is! Dad - Spoke to the hotel staff today and Hurlingham Estate still exists infact it is a very upmarket part ... read more
