On the second of our trips to Fanta's Folly, dear old Kevin was in luck yet again with the marriage proposals! No sooner had we arrived at Butre, the village about a 15 minute walk along the beach from Fanta's where Fort Batenstein awaited our exploration, did Kevin's suitor cross our path. Josef is a local of Butre working in the tourism shack and is also a teacher-presumably this is where the mutual admiration society were able to quickly establish a bond over their love for the classroom. After a tour of the castle, Josef asked me if I was enjoying my visit and did I like Ghana. Evidently this turned out to be a cunning ploy to make himself appear friendly and engaging as no sooner had I turned to ask him who built the ... read more

Hey all,... Another blog, with LOTS of photos! Friday 13th February As I left the house on Friday morning, with my little back pack over my shoulder, full of excitement for the coming weekend away,... Mr Wulff had a few words to say: 'Where are you going?' - Butre. 'Who with,... not alone?' - No, there is a group of 7 of us. ' mmmm... you're not taking any important documents, no passport, not too much money, nothing expensive?!' - No Sir, absolutely not. 'ummm... good,... don't loose anything, look after yourself'. In Butre, there were fishing villages on either side of the hotel where we stayed - far away enough so that we didn’t bother/get bothered by the locals, but close enough to add to the charm and atmosphere of the beach. We could watch the ... read more

First of all, a massive thankyou to all of you who helped out during the great Travelblog Server Crash of two weeks ago (when 40,000 Travelblog entries were lost into the ether), by saving and submitting copies of the 29 lost blogs. As I write, 31 of 33 have been restored, thanks to you guys. Cheers - I am really grateful. Secondly, this is my first blog in a while written without Susan at my side. My brave young lass returned home in the wee hours of this morning from Accra, and now it's just me and Africa for the next two months, until I meet my next travelling companion. In a whirl of emotions as I write this, so excuse me if I don't make much sense. We left Accra two weeks ago, after Suze ... read more
