Words cannot begin to describe how unbelievably incredible our experience was in the Okovango Delta. We have just got off the plane (a half an hour flight over the glorious delta) and are sitting in a small internet cafe. I have to start off by saying that it has absolutely been the highlight of our trip so far. The flight over to the Kwara airstrip was a one in a lifetime experience. From the air i saw elephants, giraffe, Wildebeast, Ostrich and countless birds. Once landed we were met by Hobbs, one of the friendly guides from Little Kwara, and he drove us to the camp. The camp was truly stunning, overlooking a beautiful wide plain and waterhole and set in and amongst the trees. I was lost for words - this may sound a little ... read more

Hello everyone..im writing this from Maun. we are opposite the airport - about to go out and have some 'late' lunch! Hope you are all well. Tomorrow we fly out to the little Kwara lodge where we will stay in the delta for 2 nights - but we get the full 3 days which is good! Really looking forward to it..Maun is also really lovely - lots of shops, restaurants etc. Planet Baobab was brilliant. the lodge was incredibly funky and there was a pool yippee! The pans were beautiful and stretched for ages..i have a few funny stories for everyone when im back! Slept through some pretty horrific storms as well!! Will write when back here in a few days! xx... read more

Hello everybody.. We have been here for a few weeks now so apologize for the incredibly late 1st entry.. We are currently spending our last day at the Chobe Safari Lodge based in Kasane - just on the border of Chobe National Park. Our 4 days here have been absolutely incredible, the camping being rather luxurious given that we can use all the Hotel facilities! Our drives through the National Park were spectacular - saw countless elephant, hippo, giraffe, Crocodile, Impala, Kudu, Warthog, baboon, Buffalo ..and the list goes on..Sorry Chris no Lions as of yet! South Africa - where our journey began - was such a great experience. We hadnt really begun our 'safari' as such until we reached the Khama Rhino Santuary in Botswana but the experience was still a really good one. Our ... read more

Our first stop in Botswana was the (kind of) city of Maun, gateway to the Okavango Delta. The delta is quite unique in that the Okavango River, rather than flowing into the sea, spreads out and evaporates across the Kalahari Desert. Our first excursion here was two nights bush camping on an island in the delta. We were accompanied by a group of locals who took us to the island in dugout canoes called mokoros. The scenery was amazing, but after doing 8 hours of bush walking all we saw was a pack of zebras. It turned out to be more of a cultural trip than a wildlife trip. The locals who had taken us into the delta sang songs for us in the evenings and chatted to us in the day time. It turns out ... read more

After leaving the tallest dunes in the world in Namibia we headed through to the Etosha Pan for some game drives and then it was off to Botswana. First we were off to the Okavango Delta for some bush camping near a beautiful swimming hole to doze off to sleep to the sound of roaring lions, mokoro rides (they are Botswanian canoes which are pushed along by poles in a gondala style) and for game walks. I was well impressed with the game drives but they are nothing on a bush walk in search of animals lead by your guide (our guide was Shakes) armed with his magic stick that seems to ward off any danger - well it worked for us. We saw leopards, zebras, elephants, impalas, hippos, giraffes, baboons and snakes - heard the ... read more

Its just stopped raining and Oats and I are playing cards. I'm teaching him spit- its not an easy game but he's learning quickly. "I am not fast enough!" he says. Of course, it is only after we have decided to turn back that the sun comes out. And of course, it is only on the one day that we planned to travel into the Delta- the main attraction of our visit to Botswana that it rains at all. Perhaps Amanda and I had been singing too much Toto. Oats keeps forgeting that the picture cards go Jack, Queen, King then Ace, or maybe he is just cheating when he piles them all down on top of eachother. The Okavango Delta is the worlds biggest inland delta. Its 800,000 Square Kms of more than a swamp ... read more
