Add some more for visa costs. You need to take a tour to Lhasa from Kathmandu, if you are alone ask for a single group visa at your agency and ask them to give you a 3 weeks visa. You need to specify that you want to continue on into China after the tour. Once in China it is possible to extend you visa. It will cost you a minimum of around 500 to 550 dollars for the tour. This is because you have to buy the train ticket from Lhasa to some town in China via them, and that train ticket is expensive, you pay between 50 to 70 dollars more than if you would be able to buy if for yourself in Lhasa at the train station. Unfortunatly there is no way around this. The tour itself, including visa and permits should cost around 400 or so dollars at the cheapest and giving enough time for the agency to process your visa.
