Quepos to Samara

Hi,
I'm heading to Central America in April and plan Manuel Antonio/Quepos for my first stop. Then I want to go to Samara.
Does anyone know any way of getting there?! Preferably I'd like not to get a chicken bus, just because it would be my first chicken bus trip and I'm terrified my bag will be nicked because I'll be so green. I'd love a ticabus or similar, and then when I get some confidence, I could take whatever.
Or else, do you know if you can get away with bringing your bag onto a chicken bus? Shouldn't be too big, plan on packing lightly..
