Reply to this I'm 19 and heading on my first solo overseas trip to Africa in July ----> travelling to Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. My flight stops over in Singapore so I'm also stopping over there for a couple of days on my way home = total 7 weeks.
However, I've already started to plan my next trip ----> which will be through South America. I'm going to do a tour through South America covering - Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil bunking on a Galapagos Islands trip at the beginning and hopefully (if cash allows) a 10 day cruise down to Antarctica at the end. When I'm finished that instead of flying home to Australia - I plan on flying over and doing an au pair program in the USA for a year saving up to do a month long trip of North America (at the end) covering all the places I don't see with my host family (it is compulsory that they do some travelling with you).
I will then fly back to Australia and work and save a bit more ----> not sure where I'll go after that. Teaching English in Asia somewhere? Au Pair in London? Tour of India? Back to Africa to cover some of the wonderful places I won't see this time (Kilimanjaro? Namibia? Uganda?)... the rest is yet to be decided but I think I've got a good start to my life as a traveller.
Reply to this Hi planning a long vacation to Goa and later to Kerela India

Reply to this We are planning a rtw trip starting next September, for about 6 months.
Delhi-Nepal-Vietnam-Kambodia-Malaysia-Sydney-NZ-Tonga/Fidji/Cook Islands/-Peru-Ecuador-Costa Rica. Some alliances have now discounts for rtw tickets, so planning on booking the ticket in next couple of weeks.
Still pondering about the Australia (which places to include, long distances make it difficult) and also having hard time to decide which polynesian paradise islands to visit. And of course, difficult to wait until next fall...

China, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, back to Thailand, Bali, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands (still to decide which), Hawaii, and California.

Reply to this After a decade in the rat race at 35 yrs old now my plans are to quit my job in April 2010 and use some of my savings to travel around the world for a year (on Star Alliance). A very approximate itinerary looks like this - first 200 days:
Los Angeles - London - Portugal - Spain - Morocco - Tunisia (maybe) - Switzerland - Greece - Egypt - Jordan - Syria - Israel - Turkey - India (very brief stop) - Thailand - Cambodia - Vietnam - Laos - Malaysia - Singapore - Indonesia - Brunei - China - Japan - Hawaii - Los Angeles
The next 6 months are going to be spent in a Spanish immersion program probably in Buenos Aires, Argentina to pursue one of my goals of becoming fluent in Spanish. I plan to do some traveling around South America as well.
I am happy to read that the concept of vacation, travel and taking some time out to fulfill some personal goals is becoming more accepting in the United States where taking extended time off work has usually been frowned upon. I think everyone should plan for and take a gap year every decade if possible, I know this is pretty common in Europe.
