shawbutters Shaw Butterworth Post Count: 4 Msg: #1 84 weeks ago, May 26th 2008 | Hey | My question is really does anyone have any experiences living and surfing somewhere in the world? Im hoping to live rather cheaply and work part time. just love life and be in a beautiful place. If anyone has any ideas for me I'd love to hear them. Thanks, Shaw Butterworth PatrickSwayzesTwin Matt Q Post Count: 22 Msg: #2 84 weeks ago, May 26th 2008 | Hey Shaw, I just watched a movie the other day (I think it was "Step into Liquid") and a father-son duo went to Vietnam and surfed there. The waves weren't anything like they are at North Shore or Trestles, but the scenery was amazing and the locals were very inviting. Its also very, very, very cheap in Vietnam. | I used to live in San Diego, California and although its kind of expensive if your on a tight budget, the city and beaches are beautiful and you can stay in hostels like the Banana Bungalow or Ocean Beach International that are within walking distance to the beach. Good luck man and let me know where you decide to go, I'm curious. There are plenty of beautiful beaches and plenty of people wanting to learn English. The schools dont pay as well as the ones in Canada but the cost of living in Thailand is only a fraction of what it is in Canada. Mel shawbutters Shaw Butterworth Post Count: 4 Msg: #4 84 weeks ago, May 27th 2008 | Teaching English involves knowing the local language? Or just English. | Mell Mell Post Count: 15347 Msg: #5 84 weeks ago, May 27th 2008 | I think it just involves knowing English. I dont think the teachers I met in Thailand knew more than a few words in Thai. | I heard that any fluent English speaker can teach English but you get payed more if you have qualifications. Teaching English is also a possibility in more places than Thailand. I met a couple of people who did it in China too. Not sure whether you need to produce a cert of qualification. but can try it out. There are local travel agencies that hire travellers to work for 3-6 months at specific location. | shawbutters Shaw Butterworth Post Count: 4 Msg: #7 83 weeks ago, May 30th 2008 | cool. i'm really looking hard into Australia now. i have some friends that worked up here, and they are back there, so i have some contacts at least. Anyone know anything about Surfers Paradise? | Addie Adeline Ngui Post Count: 27 Msg: #8 83 weeks ago, May 30th 2008 | erm, surfers paradise is in Goldcoast, Brisbane. A nice place as well (good for surfing), but since u were saying about limited budget on accommodation, im not so sure bout it. Goldcoast has rather high living expenses as far as i knw | SurfSleepEat Dana Post Count: 38 Msg: #9 81 weeks ago, June 11th 2008 | You should try Puerto Rico. I just surfed there this past March and the surf was soo good. We met a lot of people who were living there for a few month surfing and then heading back to their homes. Most people speak english too. It was definitely some of the best surf sessions I've ever had. | jprau jordan peter rau Post Count: 28 Msg: #10 81 weeks ago, June 11th 2008 | In oz u could also look into the south coast of victoria, great surf and all the surf towns can never find people to work especially in summer. Awesome surf around torquay area | PA Leslie Pierre-Alexandre Post Count: 881 Msg: #11 81 weeks ago, June 12th 2008 | Hi, | Easy...sea surf and sun and 19.....that can only be Australia...somewhere between Sydney and Cairns...and you can get easily a 1 year working visa that will allow to do many things. Australia economy is not doing bad for the moment, so finding jobs won't be that difficult...cost of living is very high thought in Sydney...but the place is amazing, and you could keep moving every few months....enjoy! deleted_76680 deleted_76680 Post Count: 6 Msg: #12 81 weeks ago, June 12th 2008 | Totally agree with Jordan, South Coast of Victoria. Some of the best surf in the world, although colder water. But the work/live lifestyle down there is second to none. If you just want some hospitality work, or even parks work, no problems. Definitely worth a look man. Good luck to ya! | shawbutters Shaw Butterworth Post Count: 4 Msg: #13 81 weeks ago, June 13th 2008 | Cool, Ive been talking to a friend, and Victoria sounds pretty sweet, thanks for all the advice, it was super helpful. | bcleite Bruno Conte Leite Post Count: 4 Msg: #14 80 weeks ago, June 21st 2008 | hey shaw, Australia is a good place to start, then you look for another places there you should begin looking something in Bribsbane and then around there | tk care Dafne Dafne G Post Count: 23 Msg: #15 79 weeks ago, June 24th 2008 | Australia is filled with Canadians, so it's definitely a welcoming place. | I recommend the West coast because it is the road less travelled, it's GORGEOUS, and the economy is booming so there's lots of money to be made. I'm a Canadian who just spent a year in Perth so I know :) Perth is the main city, Broome I thought was gorgeous...there are lots of other small towns along the coast from the far south (Albany) up to the North (Broome) that have lots of great things to offer, so have a look. Good luck! Going far away is one of the best ways to figure out your life. travellingmum Bobbie Post Count: 108 Msg: #16 78 weeks ago, July 2nd 2008 | australia will be good... i just had two 19 yr old canadians stay at my place for a month until they got jobs... be prepared if a job doesnt come along straight away.. try to make friends that you could share accomadation with to make it cheaper.... know that for surfers paradise many jobs might be in brisbane which is an hour drive away, but I am sure there will be many hospitality jobs in that area... try byron bay... and pretty much any town between brisbane and sydney.. | I actually prefer the Sunshine Coast which is 2 hours north of the Gold Coast.. it is more chilled ... less tourist orientated place Number of Users: 11 | Number of Posts: 16 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
