Hello everyone! Just a little blog for you today as we've not been getting up to very much at all these last few days back in Santiago. Tomorrow we fly to the very remote Easter Island for a couple of nights so expect lots of photos of giant head statues very soon ;-) Most importantly however, we wanted to take a moment to say a big thank you to all of you who've been taking time out to read the blogs. We're curious to know who is reading so if you have a minute, why not send us a quick message and let us know how you're doing? It would be great to hear from you, as always! Take care everyone and keep in touch :-) Love Jude, Glynn, Jish & Kitty... read more

Despues de los actividads una amiga y yo caminamos la ciudad para helado y finalement recibimos al MsDonalds, quiemos helado de tienda de ropa pero no los encontramos. I hope you all understood that, even though it has some mistakes. But todya was a pretty busy day, we went to the Presidential Palace, she doesn't live there any more but it is where she and other government officials work. After the intially daunting experience of arriving in Santiago with no Spanish and no real idea of the value of the Chilean peso, I spent the next five days there to find my feet and build up my resistance to being fleeced - I would have been a very soft target that first night. Without going into too much detail, I found Santiago pleasant enough for a few days, and a good safe place for a greenhorn backpacker to become accustomed to his lifestyle change, but at the same time it lacked a whole lot to do and see. I have been told by friends who have travelled to Europe that one can get 'all museum-ed out' and I reached that point halfway through the first museum. Perhaps that is an obtuse observation, but I imagine ... read more

Hi all Well sorry it has taken so long to update this blog but we have been travelling quite alot and its not always been easy to access internet to do this blog. Well after we were both sad to see the end of New Zealand we decided due to funds that we would cut short the trip but still go and see the places that we wanted to see most. So we flew in to santiago and managed to get a taxi to hotel. However when we got there was rather difficult to be understood as they only spoke spanish, and neither of us took much notice of the spanish tapes we brought before we left. oh well we managed to get to the room which was nice. we decided to only spend a small ... read more

Nyt on laukut purettu, ja malttaa istahtaa kirjoittamaan kuulumisia täältä. Matka alkoi Helsingistä, josta se jatkui Pariisin kautta Santiagoon. Matka meni yllättävän mutkattomasti. Saimme ménut, joista sai sai valita toisen kahdesta mukahienosta kolmen ruokalajin menusta. Käytännössä sai valita, ottaako lihaa vai kalaa. Istuinten selkänojissa oli näytöt, joihin sai valita mieluista katsottavaa. Korvakuulokkeet olivat kuitenkin niin huonot, ettei puheesta saanut mitään selvää. Päädyinkin katsomaan ranskalaista leffaa tekstitettynä. Lento tuntui yhtä pitkältä kuin julkisoikeuden luento.Yöllä herätessäni kävin juomassa mehua, ja samalla vessassa. Samassaa jostain varjoista ilmestyi mehukärrylle sellainen sarjamurhaajahenkinen hollantilainen, joka puhui ihan pehmoisia sellainen vähemmän sympaattinen kiilto silmissään. En jäänyt kuuntelemaan pidempään, vaan toivotin hyvät lennot ja menin p... read more

Moria's Journey Steph and I have had a lovely week in Chile. After Valparaiso, we checked out a northern beach (RuÑeca) for Steph´s I´m-visiting-from-New-York-where-it´s-cold benefit and then roamed the botanical gardens in ViÑa del Mar. Then we traveled south to Talca and what is perhaps the nicest hostel ever. I had to remind myself our dorm beds were only $12, so I wouldn´t feel like a spoiled brat spending big dough to stay at a resort. We had a pool, the food was yummy, and there was a petting zoo. On our second day we rented bikes from our hostel, so we could explore a local vineyard or two. Our excursion seemed to be doomed. First, Steph led us in the wrong direction for half an hour or so (I accept partial blame for not checking ... read more

Well, apparently where we were yesterday wasn't the highest point in Santiago - although it felt like it at the time. We climbed the mountain with the huge statue of the Virgin today and I'm fairly sure that was it! It wasn't totally intentional but the funicular wasn't going to open until 1pm and there was no Starbucks at the bottom. I had spent the morning travelling to the Australian Embassy and filling in the appropriate forms in order to get my emergency passport sorted. It all went very smoothly and I was back at the hostel hurrying everyone up so we could spend our last day in the sun doing something fun. The walk up took just over an hour (escorted by one of the local dogs of course) but the views were definitely worth ... read more

Much as we like the Casa Roja where we are staying, we haven't been sleeping too well because of the constant noise of people walking around upstairs or using the ladies bathroom right next to our room. On consecutive nights we've been woken up at 5 o'clock in the morning by a group of Brits detailing every moment of their conquests that night, or at 2am by a couple of Spanish girls practising a 2-part harmony for some bizarre reason. Needless to say we've been getting a bit ratty. Not even earplugs can fully drown it all out as the noise just seems to echo and bounce of the walls of this massive old house. Hmmm. As a result of all the insomnia, we didn't actually wake up until gone 11am this morning meaning that by ... read more
