New Year can be a stressful time for most people, the eternal decision of where to spend your moment singing 'Auld lang syne' can burn the brain a bit. However most people choose to spend it with friends, people that mean the most and in areas that are familiar to them. Well these two parameters were not available to us and we decided to embrace the Brazilian style and vibe, getting down with the Sambaites on their turf. Shake the hips central, next stop 2009. We sensibly decided to make the journey from Torres on the 30th of December, leaving sometime for settling into the hostel and to get to know our fellow party people. However the thing that was not the most sensible was carrying surfboard/bodyboard/wetsuit etc around the world and trying to use the ... read more

sooo brazil brazil brazil. we embarked upon a 27 hour bus ride - me and emily sitting arriba en frente and the other girls below...they played no movies but I breezed through 2 books and slept like 12 hours so it was relatively painless. we arrived in bustling florianopolis and took two buses to pantano do sul - the small fishing village where we would be renting a chalet for the next week. sooo serene, easily the most quiet place I've ever been....our house had 71 stone steps that led right up onto the beach. we rented the top floor of this beautiful house owned by a woman named niliana and her daughter, and their baller cat chiago. we had a porch that overlooked the bay and we could see sunset every night. i slept on ... read more

Brazil was the last leg of our trip, a great way to finish our travels, and the liveliest memory now sitting on the couch of our living room in a dull day in Cork. Brazil started with Giorgia and David (my sweet cousin and her husband) and their dogs Bohr (chega Bohr!!) and Runa, in Florianopolis, island Santa Catarina, where we stayed for 10 days enjoying their company, the marvellous island and.... waiting for the rain to stop! Unfortunately we arrived during heavy rain which just after we left brought huge disasters to the local communities and far too many dead. Giorgia and David spoilt us with kindness, chat, dvd nights and sushi! On a sunny day we went with Giorgia to visit the Spanish fort, had a swim in the ocean, and then went for ... read more

Hi all, I’m on my buy 5 get one free Day at the backpacker sunset hostel in Florianopolois. I doubt I’ve been this chilled out ever must be something to do with the hammock (though the lads in the dive club will tell you I’m all ready down with that) The view is class and the guests and the staff are similarly laid back. It’s been a wrench to get out of the hammock but I’ve managed to give surfing a go and wakeboarding a try. Surfing is definitely harder than it looks - going to have to get a lot fitter to get anyway good at that. However I’m all over having my fat ass towed behind a boat (after the tenth attempt involving hitting the water at full speed using different parts of my ... read more

A lot of meat filled pastries...But we are definitely not complaining...There was this great bakery down the street...And we went there everyday to get lunch and some other treats...Elizabeth wants her wedding cake imported from there...So we made sure to the address before leaving...Our ... read more

We had last seen each other a cold January night in New Delhi... Jordi and Vanessa went to the Andaman Islands, while Alberto and I headed the opposite way to Goa and onwards. They returned to Ibiza to work the Summer season. Now, here we were reunited at the other end of the World, another bustling city, cold and rainy too! Sao Paulo, Brazil, Jordi waiting at the airport, we stranded in Bolivia, thanks to a canceled flight, the only bad connection in a year! Luckily, Fernanda, a Japanese Brazilian angel we met in Peru willingly flew to pick him up with her mother!!!! Imagine his surprise, waiting to see his two best buddies from childhood, instead getting a call on the loudspeaker and being met by a beautiful Brazilian of distinct Asian features and her ... read more

Dag 122 - 124. "The sun is shining..." ... read more

Dag 120 og 121. Rekord!
