Melchior - Melchior Arnold

Melchior Arnold An original flower child, brought up to see life from a different perspective, traveling around the world three times by the age of 17 and still eager to see more!

This short recounting of adventures and fascinating sights from a beach-searching tour of the world, with surfing couches and family everywhere, is my way of keeping track of what is important and what I want to do in this wonderful life!

I hope you enjoy and feel a part of my excitement and enthusiasm of actually immersing myself in all the different cultures, countries and sensations!

Viva la Vida!

On the road...again! She ducked and dodged, watchful, eyes alert, dark black. Studying, waiting, learning... Then, the light changed, the look was another. She knew. She was ready. Uh oh, time to get out of here! Too late. She weaved like a cobra, hypnotic She was coiled and poised to strike One, two, three, you were hit by a tree! Full speed, different angles, no chance! She is small, she is light, she is clear-faced and bright-eyed, fast and furious, sweet and shy. She is Sonia, from a small fishing village called Chapora, Goa. She is the World Boxing Cham [View Full Entry]

Today is wonderful... Always! Just returned from an adventure in Cordoba, Argentina, ten days of unexpected surprises. Funny how life is one huge adventure that we walk into backwards, semi blindfolded, looking for clues in front of us, all the while continuing to move into the unknown, ah! Love it! Means nobody really knows anything! Now, how's that for a liberating thought? Well, let me see, I think some people know some things, especially universal truths and technical things, just not what the future holds, unless they have some way of seeing without their eyes... Now What? So, here I am stranded in South America... Stranded from the German Strand, which means Beach... which I love! Well, I could just wander the amazon, or make necklaces to sell on the beach, or set up a facial reflexology corner, or work in a bar, maybe even teach English, work as a receptionist in a hotel or make American pancakes (the fluffy ones!) at the square... Or head out to a monastery or Candomble' center and get some spiritual advancement. Hmmm.... Nothing quite convinced me, I still wanted to keep smiling at the beach! I think it might [View Full Entry]

Of Endings, and of new Beginnings! So, with a note of tristesse, I must officially inform that my round-the-world ticket has just expired... On November 22nd, exactly a year had passed since I had gotten on the plane at Heathrow, on my way to Antananarivo. This last leg was from Salvador de Bahia, Brasil, back to London, effectively closing the loop. End of trip. Basta. Finito. For a nostalgic recap, I re-read my posts, looked at the photos, saw the amount of wonderful people I met, the exciting and thrilling 'alive' moments from Madagascar to South Africa alone, yet, [View Full Entry]

We had last seen each other a cold January night in New Delhi... Jordi and Vanessa went to the Andaman Islands, while Alberto and I headed the opposite way to Goa and onwards. They returned to Ibiza to work the Summer season. Now, here we were reunited at the other end of the World, another bustling city, cold and rainy too! Sao Paulo, Brazil, Jordi waiting at the airport, we stranded in Bolivia, thanks to a canceled flight, the only bad connection in a year! Luckily, Fernanda, a Japanese Brazilian angel we met in Peru willingly flew to pick him up [View Full Entry]

The air is very good here! After eating rice and soup in the Andes, it was off to La Argentina to the city of so many friends... Buenos Aires! Growing up on Ibiza, I had the wonderful good fortune of having a volleyball court in the garden, where the Saturday afternoons assembled an eclectic mix of youthful adventurers from all corners of the world. Men and women, young and still-young, all eager for some competition and an excuse to guzzle a few liters of beer at Can Curune', afterwards, in preparation for a fun Saturday Night! I was allowed to play [View Full Entry]

Time and Time Again This time, every second was painful, every step a step back in time. I love fun and games, adventure and sunshine, the beach and coconut trees, so... ...what was I doing in the freezing cold Andes, walking along a trail into the clouds? A trail so Ancient that even the Inca's had a legend for that place, the birthplace of the Empire. Decidedly a timeless place! Back to those steps... the altitude sickness made my vision blurry, the ice cube between my eyes seem to grow as I went higher, only the thought that I had to [View Full Entry]

Hard day's work
Finished Work! The final touch to the gruelling schedule of the past couple of months was to hand-deliver all the players to their connecting flights in Miami... without losing any! Sounds easy enough, unless you have a three hour delay, a surprise fuel landing in Cali and a Bolivian shopkeeper calling the airport policewoman to arrest three of them, just before take-off! That was before landing in Miami where half the group grabbed their bags and disappeared without so much as a slight gracias! Beautifully, the rest of the group were delightfully tearful in their farewe [View Full Entry]

Work. Almost forgot about that word! Now I am fully immersed in it and, funnily enough, time is flying! Everything is taken care of, sort of. I mean, everything is taken care of except for the unexpected... which seem to happen daily! Alberto and I are living with a Bolivian Family, maid included. We are fed twice a day, our clothes are washed and our rooms cleaned and there have even been a couple of parties at our house, until the early hours of the morning, with 12-man-band included! In exchange, we are picked up by our young, dapper chauffeur at [View Full Entry]

Time Travels When I was 19 I decided to try to make a vague dream a reality and received a chance of a lifetime... I could spend three months with Academia Tahuichi, in Bolivia... I would train with the team that was preparing for an international tournament, the Dallas Cup. My investment was to quit my job, pay for my flight, my food, my lodging and sweat like I had never sweat before. I paid gladly. After the first few days of training, I was sure I was in hell...everything hurt...even my eyelashes! I had run up and down steep sand [View Full Entry]
