Bit fragile this morning. Went to the famous Lapa street party last night, but it wasn´t what I expected, loads of people standing around and then going into clubs, so it wasn´t a street party at all. Anyway, here´s some photos of Rio. I can´t believe these are my last few days :-((((((((( Off to the football tomorrow which I can´t wait for and then we´re off to a favela party with the girls so there may be some photos of that before I leave for the airport or maybe not....... xxxxxxxxxxx... read more

I can´t believe the date already!! This is probably my final entry whilst away, reality is starting to bite again. Anyway, enough of that, what´s been happening? It rained, rained, RAINED on my last day in Iguazu, and everywhere on the coast in Brazil was forecast rain and thunderstorms and there´s not much point going to a beautiful beach if it´s raining. So I bought another ticket and went to the only place that had sun, the Pantanal, said to have as many animals as the Amazon, and in fact I saw more animals on my first morning than I did in the Amazon. After a 16 hour bus ride into Brazil, and a 5 hour mini bus ride, we arrived at our camp where a hammock was to be my bed for the next 3 ... read more

Buenas!! ... read more

Aiiii Rio. Asi ... read more

28.09.2011 Juhuuu, flying to Rio today!!! Just chilled all day really, Matt cooked some beautiful chicken curry for us in the hostel, backpacker style ;o) The hostel we stayed at was called Porto Salvador and we would highly recommend it to anyone going to Salvador..its 2 mins from the beach, with kitchen, games room and very friendly staff. So we planned to catch a bus to the airport, but the bus never came (as they do in Brazil) so we jumped in a taxi. No problems checking inn, even dou we used someone elses CPF, so we probably will keep on doing that to book flights :o) In Rio, we jumped into a taxi to drive to Ivanas house, our Couchsurf host in Lapa, the nightlife district of Rio.. Ivana and her girlfriend Bia were great, ... read more

Hola! I am in Rio! First impression yesterday when I arrived? The bus drivers are as suicidal and crazy as everywhere in Brasil, even more people here wear retainers ( even older people around their fifties or more - brasilians are very concious with their teeth) but Rio is at least by night the most beautiful city I have seen. But besides that I am in the most crowdy, chaotic hostel of all my travels I have another big problem - I can´t get out any money of the ATM which means I am kind of stuck in the hostal as (of course) I have just 3 euros left. Nice. And the weather is so nice..I hope I will find a solution with the staff here soon..it´s a waste of valuable time! :-S Talk of (eventual) ... read more

First blog entry! We're hoping to write about once a week so you can keep track of us. Hopefully we won't ramble on too much... So our first stop has been Rio de Janeiro for Carnival! We definitely threw ourselves in at the deep end! We have decided that for anyone who has experienced the craziness of life in Spain, if you're trying to imagine what Rio is like imagine Spain on drugs - Rio is ten times crazier! It's also ten times more smelly and dirty (especially after Carnival...every morning after the chaos of the night before there are mounds of rubbish lying aruond which people seem to pick through to sell, and the streets absolutely stink). We have had an incredible time since we have been here - nothing like I imagined. We have ... read more

Well here I am in Rio! After the peace and tranquility of Costa Rica, Rio De Janeiro is the exact opposite - it's busy and crazy and the costumes are fabulous and bizarre! My hotel is surprisingly nice, a little old doorman can to unload my belongings from the taxi and take it to my room slightly amusing that my luggage is a very large rucksack with sleeping bag and sleeping mat tied to the top!! No glamour for me I am afraid! Rio carnival started officially on the 4th March and continues right through to the 12th. One of the main events is at the Sambadrome where there are the great parades with bands, costumes and dancing showcasing the best of Rio! As a tour group we have tickets for this and this is on ... read more

Welcome all! We´re currently in our first week of travelling and hostelling in rio de janerio! We arrived on tuesday after a long long flight with smelly people and food and sophie with a sick bag. After arriving at the airport we were greeted by a massive thunder storm, lighting rain and all that shabang. Arriving at the hostel was pretty sketchy, samba music was blasting but there was some rather perculiar people hanging around and we had no idea what was going on! The hostels the shittest place for organisation as me and soph ended up top and tailing in a very tiny bunk bed for the first night and everyones had some crappy problem! But..the people are amazing, the people at the hostel are great and the locals too arnt bad! apart from strange ... read more
