I've left my job, gained my TEFL qualification and am no longer a secretary! Over the next few months I will be travelling around South America and then hoping to start my new life teaching in the New Year!

So I've nearly been here a week and am still taken aback at the scenery, I'm also slowly getting used to all the drinks here, they have alcohol with everything, tea, coffee and hot chocolate, though you need it when it's averaging -20 during the day! I have been up the mountain to Murren a couple of times now, it takes an hour if you walk it, which is great exercise, but the best thing is that you get to sled all the way down. Last night I went up to Murren with Heidi and Sabina for a few drinks, alcohol is very expensive in this country! The highlight of the night though was sledding down, the moon was virtually full, it was a really bright and clear night, it was amazing. Today was my first ... read more

How things change. I have decided not to go back to Argentina, even though I loved it there, I was quite homesick and didn't want to go so far away, so quickly (I'd be out there now) for so long (about a year). I just want to go travelling again, back to Bolivia and up through Central America which is much cheaper to travel though, so hopefully that won't be in the too distant future (sorry nan!). I'd like to do some voluntary teaching whilst away as well so watch this space. So what to do in the interim to get some money together. I headed up to York for a bit but there was no work there at all, registered with 5 agencies and all I could get was 4 hours of being a catering ... read more

Bit fragile this morning. Went to the famous Lapa street party last night, but it wasn´t what I expected, loads of people standing around and then going into clubs, so it wasn´t a street party at all. Anyway, here´s some photos of Rio. I can´t believe these are my last few days :-((((((((( Off to the football tomorrow which I can´t wait for and then we´re off to a favela party with the girls so there may be some photos of that before I leave for the airport or maybe not....... xxxxxxxxxxx... read more

December 2nd 2011

I can´t believe the date already!! This is probably my final entry whilst away, reality is starting to bite again. Anyway, enough of that, what´s been happening? It rained, rained, RAINED on my last day in Iguazu, and everywhere on the coast in Brazil was forecast rain and thunderstorms and there´s not much point going to a beautiful beach if it´s raining. So I bought another ticket and went to the only place that had sun, the Pantanal, said to have as many animals as the Amazon, and in fact I saw more animals on my first morning than I did in the Amazon. After a 16 hour bus ride into Brazil, and a 5 hour mini bus ride, we arrived at our camp where a hammock was to be my bed for the next 3 ... read more

Well, not poolside as I planned, it´s cloudy here today! I´m sure you´re feeling very sympathetic for me........ I´m heading to Sao Paolo tomorrow to get to the beach, north to Belo Horizonte to see Ana hopefully and then there´s another coastal town that has turtles so I´m hoping to go there and then to Rio. So here´s some pictures of the falls for you to while away a few minutes, love to you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx... read more

Wow wow wow!!! I feel so lucky, I have seen so many amazing things on this trip and today have just come back from the Iguazu Falls. But first to recap since I spoke to you last, I´ve just uploaded the whale and glacier pictures so I´m hopefully going to get up to date whilst I´ve got access to a fairly decent computer. So I headed to Bariloche and that is one of the most beautiful places I have been to, I think I could have found my place...... It´s in the Lake District of Argentina, huge lakes surrounded by mountains and the town turns into a ski resort in the winter. There has been a huge volcano errupting somewhere in Chile since I´ve been travelling and the ash has been affecting flights and visibility for ... read more

Morning all, I´ve got a few hours to kill before my bus so will try and be up to date on this for once. Mel left for her next destination this morning so I am once again on my own, though when thinking about it, since Amelia left, apart from a day in Buenos Aires I´ve been hanging around with people. I´m quite looking forward to this next step, it´s so easy to meet people and I will have no hesitation in going away by myself in the future, sorry nan! Yesterday I went to see the glacier, and am so glad that I decided to head down this way as it´s something that I have never seen before and would have been gutted to have missed it, it was MASSIVE!! Chunks falling off all the ... read more

So I´m really thinking about my lack of days but I´m still heading in the wrong direction, South instead of North, but such is life. This will be a short entry, but you´ll be pleased to know that you will mostly be viewing whales today :-) Wow - they came so close to the boat, mother and calves, they are so beautiful. I met Marisa on the boat, she has been travelling most of her life, and is now a Spanish and English teacher in Bariloche (she is 68 but looks amazing, it must be something in the water) and I am hopefully going to visit her for afternoon tea, she loves Earl Grey tea, and may be a useful contact for work, who knows..... After the wahles it was a short hop, skip and jump ... read more

Well, such a lot has happened since my last entry, recapping from where I last left off, I got the job!!! Lesson went well and I really enjoyed it. Who knows what will happen between now and then but I have that to go to which is a relief. I met some lovely people in the hostel, one of the friendliest places that I have stayed. Then a bus to Buenos Aires, and my first couch surfing experience, which went really well. This is where you can stay or meet up with people from that city and they let you stay or meet up and show you the city, a great way to get away from the tourist places. So I met Tano from BA, Ana from Brazil who I am hoping to go and stay ... read more

Morning chicas and chicos!!! So what have I been up to? Amelia has left and I´ve moved into a cheaper hostel. The receptionist, Ramona, teaches German at the local international language school and I was told that she would be able to let me know what it´s like working and teaching here. Anyway, to cut a long story short, she called them up last Friday, I went for an interview that day, observed a class that night and I have an hour of teaching tonight and if they like me then I have a job starting next March!!! I´m finding it so hard to get back into the grammar, and teaching am about "would" but the teacher, Kit, is really nice, very laid back, she´s from Boston, been here about 18 months and heading home next ... read more
