So on Tuesday we drove a few hours south to a city called Joao Pessoa. It was sssoooooo hot!!! We did a city tour and saw some old buildings, went through an old church. drove up the headland where brazil is closest to both Europe and Africa. Man it was hot up there! And I was frustrated because I really wanted to take a photo of the bay and they all turned out blurry :( We had lunch at another restaurant with meals enough for three. we went for a swim here, it was really warm. I have never swam in an ocean so warm!! Later we went and walked through a market which was along a river. There were some really beautiful things, all made by hand. It´s hard to just walk past everything and ... read more

On Monday we went snorkling at Maracajau. I was a bit disappointed at first because it was a cloudy morning.. but it soon cleared up!! We cought a jet boat kind of thing to the middle of the bay out to the raft that was waiting for us. we all listened to the safety talk which I didn´t really understand, then we got our snorkle set and jumped into the blue water. The corral was brown and the snorkle let water in but it was still a really good day.. we got to test our camera out under water which was fun, but you can´t see the screan very well so we didn´t know if we even got photos of what we wanted. The fish move fast too. there was this really blue fish that I ... read more

This is a tree which gives the caju fruit which Brazilians make a juice out of. From the bottom of this fruit is a seed like thing inside this is where cashews come from.... read more

Today we flew to Natal. It was a bit scary because the plane hit some terbulance just before we landed. They turned the Emergency Exit signs on, which is what scared me.. But we were all very glad when we landed safely, I could see the reliefe on everyones faces. I was also very happy to see our transfer waiting for us to take us to our hotel because I was getting a bit tired. The hotel was lovely. Right on the beach, with two swimming pools. There was breakfast served daily, lots of fruit salad and eggs on toast with freash fruit juce too. I tried an avocado smoothie, it was ok but I didn´t really like the aftertaste..... read more

Well I guess having been away for nearly two months, its about time I updated this and let you know what Ive been upto. Not alot in the first month, arrived at Mandy Moos at Natal and dossed on the beach at Ponta Negra for the best part of a month. Excellent I can tell you! Just sat around and ate ice cream and drank coco water, cant say I picked up much of a tan but hey what do you expect. Amandas house is in the middle of no where, and I mean that literally, it is 11 km down a sand track, no public transport or anything, but it is absolutely gorgeous with her back garden looking on to a lake. While her friend Lesley was there we did go to Pipa which is ... read more

In die... read more

Natal, the city of sun!! The sun shines here for 360 days a year and guess what days we arrived in. Exactly, we had a beautiful beach day on the first day and also on our last day. We were also the first foreign people to ever experience such torrential rain in Natal (lol). This was serious rain, it caused the city centre to flood and basically everywhere closed down. It rained solidly for 24 hours, so our beautiful room with its ocean view was really not that much use to us lol. Although, if you have more luck than us, then we would recommend this hotel, The Hotel Nautilus. We happened to be the only three guests in the Hotel but still that didn't make a difference really, we just had to talk to each ... read more

And relax! That's exactly what we've been doing. It's hot, hot, hot and the beaches of Natal are wonderful. We found a fantastic loft apartment for just 60 reais per night at Pousada Coco Verde and by the time we leave, we will have spent almost a week making the most of the sun, sand and sea (well, the ocean really)! We have been out and about too. One of the things you can't fail to do is a beach buggy ride. We spent a whole day with a Uruguayan couple and our guide exploring the beaches to the North of Natal. It was an amazing experience and we did a bit of dune bashing, sunbathing, swimming, and Russ even got to slide down a zip-line into a lake. To the South of Natal is Pirangi. ... read more

So after three flights and more than 30 hours of travelling, I finally arrived in Natal where my trip would begin. It was just a very short visit (2 1/2 days!) after I managed to get in contact with my friend Marcos, whose family is from there, right at the last minute. Although Marcos told me that we would be staying at his family holiday place, I did now expect to be greeted by 16 people!!:-) He also forgot to tell them that I speak Portuguese so there was a comedic 5 minute of people speaking very slowly and shouting at me:-) The look of sheer relief on their faces when they realised we could converse in their language was very funny. So I just spent a few days by the beach in Buzios, which is ... read more
