New Zealand, well this was a bit of surprise as we had not planned on visiting NZ at all but due to having to do a visa run we decided to go for two weeks. We flew into Christchurch, spent a couple of day in the city, then flew to windy Wellington to spend a long weekend with Lesley and Steve, then back to Christchurch for a week of driving around the south island. Highlights: Christchurch a nice quiet city; the SO hotel; staying with Lesley and Steve, walks along the beach; the Weta workshop where lord of the rings special effects were worked on; Wellighton somewhat wet and windy but a nice city to be in for a few days. South Island, driving from Christchurch to Queenstown; snowboarding for a day in Queenstown. Fergburger; Fishbone ... read more

Australia, after a 18 hour flight from Chile with a stop over in Auckland and loosing a day in our life due to crossing the international date line we arrived in Sydney. It was so nice to be able to order a coffee in english and understanding what was said back to us was even better. We spent 15 months in total in Australia, while it would take a full book to write about all the things we did and places we seen, here are some highlights: Sydney: Beer on our balcony on a Friday evening; Enjoying the excellent restaurants the city has to offer; drinking in the Rocks, specially the Fortune of War and roof top in the Glenmore hotel; Barbie's and BBQ, lots of them; Darling Harbor; Fishing on a boat in Middle harbor; ... read more

Our last stop in South America and what a stop, as we had three days before we went to Australia we decided that a nice 5 star hotel would be the best place to stay, to give us time to relax and repack before the long flight to Sydney. We booked the Radisson Plaza Santiago Hotel. It was as you can see from the pictures a very nice hotel. You were thanked for saying thank you when you entered the hotel. So bacially for 3 days we spent most of the time in the hotel, getting ourselves back to normal after all the buses, and of course packing our bag and dumping what we didnt need. Next stop Sydney!! ... read more

After our couple of days relaxing in Bariloche and as we hadn't the time to make it south to Patagonia and back we decided that we would take a trip to Puerto Madryn to go Whale watching. As with most trips in South America, it would be a overnight bus there and back with one night stay in Puerto Madryn. We arrived after a nice bus journey early in the morning, having already booked out hostel we got a taxi to it. This hostel was basically a big house but it was very well run, had some of the best beds and was also lovely and warm. The staff we excellent and it was really nice place to stay, unfortunately we cannot remember the name of it. But we did book a whale watching trip from ... read more

Ahh Bariloche, after our mammoth journey to get to this point, we were enjoying being back in Argentina. We booked into the Marco Polo hostel, a excellent place to stay which also has free dinner as well as breakie. This hostel was also one of the warmest we stayed in out the trip, very cosy. We had a great nights sleep the first night, probably down to all the bus travelling we had been doing. Bariloche is part of the lake district of Argentina, it also has skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports. The town is very much like the Austrian or Swiss towns in the Alps with some beautiful scenery. We had hoped to get down to Patagonia but as we had only a week left before we headed to Oz and it been the ... read more

82 hours of travelling by bus!! Well we wanted to high tail it down south to see if we could make it to see Southern Argentina before we leave for Australia. So we started this trip in Ica - about 4 hours south from Lima by bus. First up was a over night 15 hour bus journey on a semi-cama bus - This was grand bar the bus bingo we were asked to play, they seemed a little bothered when we said no. Still don't think out Spanish would have stretched to a wining bingo speech to a bus full of locals. When we got to the border with Chile, we had to wait and get a collective taxi across the border. This is a big old American car and a couple of strangers along with ... read more

After the week in Cuzco and Machu Picchu we decided to head west and stop in a place that was recommended to us. A small desert oasis outside the town of Ica called Huacachina. After the overnight bus where again we were asked to play bingo, we arrived in the morning in Ica, after a short taxi journey we arrived in Huacachina and quickly got accommodation. This place was amazing, very small town, pop 115 surrounds by sand dunes, hotel we got had a pool, bar and some very friendly parrots. We spent 3 night staying here in the most part chilling out, although we did take a day trip to what is known as the poor mans Galapagos. This consists of a boat trip to a island with 1000s of birds and some very early ... read more

After our very relaxing stay in Las Olas we left Bolivia for Peru crossing the border at Puno which is on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca. This time it was a day time bus as we didn't have far to travel. Caroline and Rich were ahead of us in Cuzco so with the power of the internet we booked into the same hotel as them. As we arrived at the hotel, they were waiting for us with some beers so a nice evening was had by all. So we had a few days walking around the busy and very touristy Cuzco , also pricing a trip up to Machu Picchu. After much searching we figured out that a late hiking trip was way too expensive so we would get train up. We booked out trip ... read more

After a relatively short bus journey which also involved the bus having to take barge across a lake, we arrived in Copacabana on the shore of Lake Titicaca. Lake Titicaca is the highest commercially navigable lake in the world. With the help and recommendation of Osgur we had booked into a place called Las Olas, what a place to stay for a couple of days, as you can see from the pictures we had our own suite in what they still call a hostel, it was not exactly budget accommodation but we thought it was worth every penny. We had a huge bed with unbelievable views of the lake providing some amazing sunsets. Outside there is hammocks and nice gardens, as you can see in the picture Kev's beard was also coming along well. We spent ... read more

La Paz, the administrative capital of Bolivia. A city at about 3600metres above sea level. Its a very busy place. The have small mini buses where a guy hangs out the side and announces where they are going, the really pack people into these. With some help from Anto and Ciara we had a room booked in the Loki hostel, a great hostel owned by Oscar and friends. As we arrived from overnight bus, which was also the warmest bus we had taken, we did a little walk around the city and chilled out in the bar with Oscar that night, a few drinks and some lite banter, actually it went on until the late hours. As we were suffering, not from a hangover but from the salt flats trip we just chilled out for the ... read more
