As I woke up on the morning of the 21st March, I had no idea I wasn´t going to bed again for another 40 hours as I have my most interesting night in Brazil yet. I had a lot of fun, and yet not so much fun, a completly random night which ends in myself and 3 other Australians being forced to leave Brazil within 3 days. So sit tight and read on as I tell you about the night I got arrested in Brazil. I had spent most of the day hanging out at an airconditioned shopping centre, got a "pay by the kilo" lunch and the got worst haircut of my life. We also met this awsome Brazilian guy Luiz, who had travlled to Australia, spoke really good english, worked at the tourist information ... read more

It has been six days some may say way too long but with the craziness of carnaval and booking hostels and my rapid travelling through brazil it has been a welcomed change of pace. I tried to stay in Macieo but it failed dismally when i couldn´t find a place to stay... so since salvador it has been a 8 hour bus ride to Macieo which was extended by four hours as the bus broke down then 12 hours walking around the beatiful beach area in Macieo with my bag (and stupidly my camera locked in the bus station locker). i did manage to get one of the bus station for anyone interested and to prove that i have been there haha yes i was bored! it was then another overnight bus ride to Natal... this ... read more

Day 31 - Day 46 Natal Natal, the capital of Rio Grande de Norte, is a modern and clean city in the north of Brazil, famous for its sand-dunes, with the main attraction being beaches rather than museums! It is a 22 hour bus ride north of Salvador, and the people and culture differ greatly. We stayed in Ponta Negra, the tourist area of Natal where most people stay when they visit, 10 km from the centre of Natal. Natal translates as Christmas, and the city is characterised by statues of the three wise men on every corner. They have good shopping malls and nice restaurants here. One night, after being widely informed by many people including the locals, we went for our first Charcusserie (All you can eat meat place)! We prepped ourselves for the ... read more

In addition to sightseeing, another unfortunate yet inevitable circumstance of traveling is falling ill. While well-equipped with antibiotics, my insight into Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte, has been limited to transiting between the bus station and my accommodation, and from the front balcony of my guesthouse to the toilet. I have had one uneventful night out. In my two days, I confess to know nothing of Natal except its lackluster downtown and a package tourism scene that attracts as many single men from Northern Italy as it does hordes of local prostitutes. The best result I could wish for in Natal was to wait for the Cipro to take effect and keep moving north to Ceará. In winter, non-Brazilians flock to Ponta Negra, eight miles or so south of downtown, to enjoy the hollowness ... read more
