We finally made it onto the bus to get out of Uyuni on Sunday night at 7pm. The bus was meant to take approximately 9 hours but it stopped in Potosi for 3 hours which gave us a chance to get some sleep. We hadn't been able to sleep for most of the way because with all the bouncing around on the unmade roads, the window next to us kept sliding open and letting in a frosty breeze. With no 'real' toilet stops (squating was a option taken by many - especially the south american ladies in their knee length skirts - but Georgie could not bring herself to do it) and 15 hours later we arrived tired but relieved in Sucre. Sucre itself is actually a gorgeous underrated town which had an amazing atmosphere. We ... read more

We are now in La Paz, but we just got back from Cochabamba. While there, 4 6 days, we worked with some street kids who juggled and made bracelets for money. it is this organization, NGO actually, run and done soley by this 20 yr old John Connel from new mexico. John Connel came down when he graduated (kind of) highschool, at the age of 16. he eventually ran out of money, and decided to juggle on the street. He is an incredible juggler, he took a class at his school...he juggles fire clubs and 5 balls and everything you can imagine. he made tons of money, and decided to stay. seeing as he was kind of a street kid, but making a lot of money, he realized that this was a great oppurtunity if taught ... read more

Now we are in Cochabamba, working with street kids. Its a program set up by a 20 yr old named john who went to a quaker boarding school but decided to stay here after visiting for 3 months. he is the only person who works with them ussually. they have class in the park and can all jugle really well. they make alot of money. they also sell bracelets in the states. we will be here for 7 days or so, but then chloe has to go to the doctor again because she is dying. regardless, i will write more about that later. for now, look at this link for pictures of the most beautiful road trip anyone has ever been on. http://hs.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2001326&l=25bab&id=1479360054... read more

Hallo allemaal, Hier eindelijk mijn weblog.

Ross: Arrived in Cochabamba with most of the group staying behind in La Paz for an extra day and then flying to Sucre where we would meet up with them again. Our guide José really didn’t give the impression that there was a great deal to do here, and in terms of activities suppose he was right but he also said there was hardly any night life, other than watch the protesting coca farmers in the town square trying to oust the regional governor or something ‘cause they didn’t like him. So with the only thing to do but go out and get drunk we soon found a great little pub full of locals and some cocktails for Claire and great cheap shots. Still up for a night of fun we asked some locals for a ... read more

This weekend we decided to go and see another city in Bolivia. Cochabamba is about 400kms away from La Paz... which you would think would take about 4-5 hours... but it took us 12! Here is why this trip turned slightly nightmare-ish... 1. It was raining cats and dogs. We had a great lightning display and at over 4000m most of the way, feared we would get fried (although on further thought we were perfectly safe... Physics 101... The reason you are safe in a car is because the lightning will travel around the surface of the vehicle and then go to ground. Michael Faraday, a British physicist, discovered that a metal cage would shield objects within the cage when a high potential discharge hit the cage. The metal, being a good conductor, would direct the ... read more

We left. I'm sure there were many tears, if only from Ryan- fear not my lovers, she IS moving to Australia and you, WILL get married and be so happy forever and ever. Promise. We left, after much avail, and headed to Cochabamba where we were going to meet Tahnee and Abby's friend Leeroy who is volunteering at an animal sanctuary in the jungle- that same one where the american girl had a chunk bitten from her hand.. Nightmare journey- we were told we'd arrive in Villa Tunari a mere 8 hours after leaving Cochabamba, so we snuggled into our seats and watched the most amazing lightning and thunderstorn from the safety of our window.. That is however until we were woken at 3 am, with everyone letting us know that we had arrived and no, ... read more

Cochabamba has a big Jesus modeled after the one in Rio. You can take gondolas up to visit him and climb up his spiral spinecase to his chest/underarms for about 12 cents. The Gondola Jesus park is sponsored by Coca Cola (which, by the way, is impossible to find cold). We also stopped by the main PC Bolivia office to pick up some books and Newsweeks and ended up getting a full tour (and a cookie) and talked with the country director. The office is a beautiful, sparkling, four story building. The volunteer lounge is two stories and looks like a suite from The Princess. They have a full kitchen, fridge, microwave, oven, plush couches, tables, DVD library, carpet, everything. Their computers have lots of stuff on them like Skype so I'm not buying the automated ... read more
