So we arrived in Cochabamba (Cbba) on Wednesday afternoon. Again we are staying with Ramon´s family so his cousin met us at the airport and took us back to her Aunt´s house where we are staying. Since I had been to Cbba before it was pretty easy for Steven and I to find our way around and walk the city. So that´s what we did. After a nap, later in the evening Aunt Olivia took us on a drive around Cbba to orient us and then we had dinner at Dumbo (named after the Disney elephant) and chatted. Of course there are no copyright laws here, at least none that are heeded so many places are named after American cartoon characters, strange but true. There is Dumbo and a Bar named after Moe from the Simpsons, ... read more

Arrived from Sucre Today. Forgot how nice Sucre was, a "small clean" town. Cochabamba is the third largest city in Bolivia. I will just spend the night and head towards the jungle. Maybe meet up with some people i know. The market in Cochabamba is huge. You could spend the entire day there and not see all of it. it is amazing how much used clothing there is from the states. The clothing is the stuff that doesn´t sell in the US thrift stores. obviously, Cochabamba isn´t the only city with clothing from the US, there are cities all over the world that receives our excess stuff. Not to go off on a tangent but, i remember a conversation i had with my teacher in sucre. here mom never had an oven, couldn't´t afford one. i ... read more

A reasonably uneventful week in Cochabamaba, we both suffered from coughs/colds after the Potosi trip, although Claire succumbed later than I. But fear not Claire bought the entire contents of our medicine chest with us (remember bastard bag!) so we have a choice of Beneline, Vicks nasal, Vicks throught, Strepsils etc. Managed to get to University as required, although as usual the attendance was varied! Improving slowly though, for both of us its sometimes a bind to drag ourselves up there, but when actually teaching we enjoy it. Claire even volunteers to take over the main lecture as well now. As mine starts at 6.45, I am not in much of a state to be there, let alone take over, so less volunteering from this quarter! Plenty of time spent at the country club, played golf ... read more

Cochabamba is a great place. Its in a valley surrounded on most sides by mountains which you can walk up at weekends. Lovely climate, blue all day, not too hot but hot enough. Everyone is pretty cheerful as if they know they´ve got it ok here. Lots of open spaces to relax, lots of bars and cafes etc which you can eat at, and street vendors you don’t touch with a barge pole. Really fallen on our feet here. We have a very nice ´granny flat´ attached to a large house and are left to our own devices by the owners. Good, safe part of town as well, although we have a private guard at night who patrols the street. Have joined the country club. This place is great, real touch of luxury, so we are ... read more
