Dag 17. De ... read more

We took an overnight bus from Curitiba to Foz do Iguazu which is the town on the Brazilian side of the falls and from there hopped straight on a bus to take us over the border to Puerto Iguazu on the Argentinian side. We´d decided to go straight to the Argentinian side as we´d been told it was much better. It felt strange having completed our first country, but exciting to go on to the next. We were sad to leave Brazil, we could have easily spent a year there exploring the never ending and stunning coast line, drinking caiprinhas and making friends with the locals. An awesome country we´d definitely return to. We were pretty tired when we finally got to our hostel, it had been a bit of a sleepless night. We had chosen ... read more

It was finally nice to touch-down after 3 days of traveling. I can´t say I was a happy bunny though.....having come from Ecuador´s sunny smile to arrive in Argentina´s winter I started to feel climate-related depression....& I think it reminded me of the days to come (& look forward to!?) at home!! I´ve been so lucky on my travels because I´ve had sunshine for most of the journey.....so finishing off my last 2 weeks in winter was a tough come-back to reality. I stayed in a hostel in Iguazu that comes highly recommended by lots of travelers. It´s a massive place about 5km outside Puerto Iguazu. It once was a casino but now it has been converted & has all the amenities that you might need.......with a big pool, restaurant, internet & laundry so there is ... read more

We arrived in Puerto Iguazú after a 6 hour coach trip from Paraty to Sao Paulo then another 16 hours from Sao Paulo to Foz do Iguaçu... and yes we were tired! A short bus ride through border control and we were there! We had orginally planned to stay in Foz first then travel over but accommodation etc is so much cheaper on the Argentian side that a quick decision was made. After a bit of coming and going we found a hostel which was ok and so cheap in comparison to what we were used to in Brazil.. and bigger rooms too. The shock to us on arriving here was how cold it was. We had been used to t-shirts and shorts but fleeces, boots and trousers were definately needed here.. we are just hoping ... read more

Hello again! :o) OK.... now for the Argentinien side! We arrived at our hostel in Argentina at midday on Thursday! It was still pouring with rain and the weather forecast looked better for Friday so we decided to postpone doing the waterfalls until then! The hostel was absolutely massive (240 beds!!) which was cool so there was lots to do and there were cheap dinner buffets every evening which was also really handy as the hostel was quite far away from town and we also didnt want to go out in the pouring rain again! While waiting to check in we met a really nice Scottish guy who was travelling on his own so we chatted to him for a while before heading into town to get cash! When we got back and checked into our ... read more

Nicky I think after four months away we are starting to get used to long journeys on public transport. Our 20 hour bus ride from Cordoba to Puerto Iguazu was relatively painless and was a great way to see the countryside changing. When we left Cordoba it was lots of cities and towns, by the time we woke in the morning it was rolling farmland full of cows and cowboys on horseback and by the time we arrived in P I the scenery was thick rainforests. I hope what I am about to say does not sound like we are getting blaise about the amazing things that we are seeing while we are away but we saw a lot of waterfalls in Australia and New Zealand, all of them were beautiful, and I was expecting the ... read more

Puerto Iguazu is only a few kilometres from the tri-border area with Paraguay and Brazil so of course we´ve had to have a little jaunt over the border. Yesterday we went to Paraguay, to the border town of Ciudad del Este. It's the most chaotic border we´ve ever seen. Goods are cheap in Paraguay so every man, his dog and their child crosses the border to go shopping and is loaded up like a packhorse on the way back. The black market at its best. It's so cheap that people on foot queue for hours to pass back through customs - the lines of people, moto taxis and vehicles were kilometres long and backed up right through the town. Luckily buses get their own lane so we got through relatively quickly. They don´t even bother with ... read more

Day 222 - Tuesday 29 April My bus arrived in Puerto Iguazu early afternoon and even though its only a small town, I´ve decided to pay an extra 50p and stay somewhere close to the bus station thats had good reviews. After BA I don't want to do myself over agin just to save 50p a day. With it only being half an hour to kick off in the Man Utd v Barcelona champions league semi-final I quickly rushed out to find somewhere showing it. It actually turned out quite difficult as its only a small town and most of the bars and resturants weren't open yet. Finally with 5 mins to spare I found somewhere. It seems like other people were having the same problem too as people kept running in every few minutes. In ... read more

Day 7 Nese! Nese! Nese! Went to see the footy at the Maracana between Fluminese and Botafogo. It was the cup final so all was a bit mental. We were in the Fluminese end as we went with the owner of the hostel who is a big fan. There were flags and flares and drums banging way before the start of the match, better than anything the Brits have got to offer, apart from the mighty Darlo of course, nothing like 4000 in a 25000 capacity. Anyway, great game, the atmosphere was immense, but ´Nese lost 1-0 even though Botofogo had a man sent off. Poop. We rounded the evening off with the favela ela ela funk party. Got on a little bus like the good little tourists and got escorted into a massive club in ... read more
