For our last night in Brazil we went out for something to eat. We found a nice restaurant along the main street in Foz. We were seated at our table and waited on all night. We never had to pour a drink from our glass. As we sat the for a few drinks afterwards we noticed it was a strange place. The people in there obviously had a bit of money but some of them were acting weird. This story may seem far fetched but both of us swear by it. Two pretty girls were sitting at a table across from us. They were eating and drinking and having a good time. Two older men and a younger woman sat at a table near them. I noticed the younger girl beckon one of the two girls ... read more

... read more

Another little "hop" later, only 18 hours on the bus this time, and we arrived in puerto iguazu. Our hostel was just over the road from the bus terminal, which was just as well cos the humidity was about 30 billion % NO EXAGGERATION..... So we sweatted the day away until the aircon came on in our room and we could breathe without getting our clothes soaking wet... Next day we visited the Iguazu National Park. Was really impressed with the park itself, very easy to negotiate around, paved paths and raised walkways kept us tourist hordes from trampling the forest and led to various view points of the falls. Spent the morning wandering the upper and then the lower walkways, so amazing how huge the falls are, in terms of height, length, number of separate ... read more

Our hotel: The Alexander, across the intersection from the bus station Decent price (180 pesos) includes breakfast Good restaurant is the second on Cordoba on the right that has an open terrace. Great helados on the corner by the Alexander. Family run, makes their own ice cream. Grocery store at the same intersection has good cheese and bread. Buy some for the long bus rides! At the falls: if you take the train, hang around a bit and let the masses move through the walkways before you start out, and you can actually be nearly alone... The boat to San Martin stops at 2:00, not 3:30 as posted. The last return is 3:30.... read more

Foz de Iguazu / Puerto Iguazu When we arrived here, we were after getting off an 18hr flight at 8 in morning and so after sleeping most of the journey we ended up in Foz de Iguazu which is on the Brazilian side. We had only planned on staying here for 1night as we heard that the argentinian side of the falls were much better. When we went to see the falls we were amazed at the mass scale of the falls. On the brazilian side you get the whole panoramic view of the falls, which astounded us both. As you can see from the photos it was amazing. It was valentines day so we decided to hav a meal along the river Iguazu, just as a treat to ourselves. Really romantic it was, (Yeah right, ... read more

From Salta it was a 20-hour trip across the pampas to one of the chief destinations in South America, Iguazu Falls (pronounced Ee-GWAH-soo) consisting of 275 separate waterfalls stretching 2.7 kilometres along the Iguazu River on the border between Argentina and Brazil. The highest is 82 metres while the majority drop about 64 metres. The annual peak flow of water is calculated to be 6 500 cubic metres per second. By comparison, Niagara Falls' annual peak flow is less than half of this at 2 800 cubic metres per second. Only Victoria Falls in Africa is greater than Iguazu. You can visit from both sides of the border. The Brazilian side offers a more panoramic view of Devil's Throat, which many consider to be the highlight, while the Argentinian side lets you get right up beside ... read more

So this is it....probably the last major excursion of our trip, and possibly one of the most anticipated - We both had a pìcture of this magnificent natural wonder as our screensavers at work, and sat dreaming of when we´d finally be miles away around the world! We began the day early so as to avoid the crowds and in the final seconds before leaving the hostel I eventually managed to convince Dan that we might need our waterproofs - the sky looked a little overcast and it was rainy season at the end of the day....so we managed to squeeze them into a small space in the rucksack.... .....Phew, what a good job we did - Not only did it rain (I´ll get to that bit in a minute!) but the spray from the almighty ... read more
