Bouldering on the wall of The Nationa Library in Canberra is very good. There are 2 wall which about 50-60 meters long and about 3 meters tall.there are both have some easy and hard routes. I went for bouldering for 2 days. it was owesome!... read more

Went to Day 2 of the test and we had the same seats (same for all 4 days). My cold was in full flow now and I was not feeling the best. Got some multi-vitamin tablets and strepsils to try and combat. It's weird having a cold when the temperature is nearly 30 degrees C. England did badly again in the cricket. Met up with my old housemate (from Milton Keynes) Suky, and his girlfriend Kerry. Carla and Elliot, Andy, Gary and Dan all turned up. A couple of Lee's friends from work (Tanya and Becky) were also there. I was drinking vodka-orange and vodka-cranberry to combat the cold. We were in the Opera bar (next to the Opera House), which is a really nice location. ... read more

Auckland - Waitomo - Rotorua Welcome to New Zealand, for us anyway you guys are still stuck in dreary old England Ha Ha! We have started our Magic Bus tour of New Zealand, but spent a few days first looking round Auckland. Claire met an old work buddy from Melbourne, April. Then we spent New Year with people from our hostel and had a great time watching the fire works over the sky tower. Sorry no pics we were too pissed and forgot the camera. The first leg of the Magic Bus took us from Auckland to Waitomo, where the famous glow worm caves are found. Went on a short tour of the caves and a boat ride underneath the glittering glow worm caves. It was really fascinating and a beautiful sight, unfortunately no camera allowed ... read more

Stayed in Curio Bay and tried to find some rare Yellow Eyed Penguins. None. Drove to Kaka Point for a stroll along the beach and in the surf. Very nice area. Very remote too... ... read more

Arrived safely in Perth and picked up camper van - very small and had a few problems with the automatic gears - like I couldn't get it in gear and kept holding up the traffic at embarrassing moments. Got to the stage where we were going to take it back and say it was faulty until some kind man worked out that you had to have your foot on the brake to put it in gear - well no-one ever told me! Needless to say after this it went like a dream. At Bunbury we swam with dolphins - just - they weren't too interested in us, but did see one swim right under us which was rather special. It was a rather cold day - by Aussie and English standards! From Bunbury we went onto ... read more

So back to Melbourne (and Emma's house again). Good to see Em again, but also needed to get the wipers on the van fixed. We had also noticed that the Air Con in the van was not working. Now the temperature was hitting 34 degrees centigrade we really did need the air con ( I was having to drive the van with the windows wide open and my head out of the window like some bizarre bald Labrador) - so had to take the van to Vanworld. Sadly the new parts needed were not available, so we had to wait a day or so, but that was fine. First night we had a quiet night in with Emma, next day we visited the botanical gardens, then went round to Carol and Eds (Emmas Mum and Dad) ... read more

Repeat: The proof is in the photos and their descriptions so I will leave most of the explanation to those devices. Up early and toured the town, including the cathedral art museum and the Cadbury factory. Left Dunedin heading north for Christchurch. More wildlife hunting with little success. The weather was fantastic and the water aquamarine. Christchurch is flat and sprawled. Checked into the hostel and headed out for dinner and then on to a bar called the Stock Market or something similar. I watched the markets close across time zones as the hours passed by. I spent a good deal of time sending out a mass of postcards. ... read more

WaitangiAfter landing in Auckland, we took a shuttle bus from the airport to the ferry terminal in the city centre and took a boat over to Devonport on the North Shore. As Auckland has now grown so big, there are now 5 separate cities within it, so we were technically staying in 'North Shore City'. We started our 2 month stay here in style, staying with our friends Sid and Christine, whose holiday apartment turned out to be a luxurious house in the very pretty town of Devonport. From their breakfast table, we enjoyed the views of Auckland City across the water and soon joined the locals in their favourite pastime of watching the various ships coming and going into the harbour. Unfortunately we mis-timed our stay and failed to see the arrival of the Queen ... read more

The best bang for your buck in Rotorua is to head out of town to Wai-O-Tapo. Although still pricey, it had more to offer than Te Puia and in fact we wished we had more time to spend there! The Lady Knox geyser goes off each morning at precisely 10:15 so we packed up our car and drove like the wind down to the park, arriving just in time. Little did we know, unlike Old Faithful at Yellowstone, this geyser doesn't erupt on its own - an employee of the park pours soap into the geyser at 10:15 AM and coaxes it to erupt! LAME! And to cap it off, we found a friendly notice from the New Zealand police department in the mailbox when we returned home to the States: it was an automated speeding ... read more
