so we adopted a baby duck!!!! we were walking through the botanical gardens when we saw the cutest little baby duck. as we got closer we noticed that he didnt have a mommy and he was shivering. so we picked him up and brought to another mom that had 4 baby ducks but she started to bite him to kill him so we quickly stepped in and rescued our ducky again. we decided to take him back to our hostel. we fed him sugar water and little pieces of bread. he enjoyed swimming in the sink. when it was time to go to bed the little ducky which we named donald would not stop chirping, he liked to be held or nestled in our armpits because it was warm. so when we put him to bed ... read more

And so arrived in the Adventure Capital to beautiful clear blue skies and bright sunshine. We stayed in a great hostel with amazing views over the lake, and a crazy Cork girl (Liz) on reception who ensured we booked onto the HIGHEST bungy in NZ at 450ft. With the sunshine not predicted to last, we tried to squeeze in a few activities the first day - so we hit out on Shotover Jet (a bit tame), caught the Gondola to the top of Bob's Peak and had a go on the Luge Track (see Thomas on the wee go-kart). Typically, when the day of our bungy dawned, there were ominous grey clouds in the sky....probably reflecting our increasingly unwillingness to go through with the jump! As we made our way out to the pod via a ... read more

HEY GUYS, MAKE SURE YOU DIDNT MISS THE BLOG PRIOR TO THIS, NAMED BEAUTIFUL QUEENSTOWN!! So today was clear blue skies and not a cloud in site so we decided to take the Gondola up to the top of a mountain where you can either eat and enjoy the scenery and gondola (cable car) back down or you can gondola up and LUGE down. What is a LUGE you ask?? Well we didnt know either. Its a little car thing like a go kart that goes down a 4 metre wide track, there is a mild or wild track. Amanda took the scenic route and Steve went on the advanced track. Lots of fun. We had a great time. The views from up there were jaw dropping, it didnt feel real and was like something you ... read more

What can we say....like everyone said, the South Island is just AMAZING! more than amazing, so beautiful. Everywhere you look its a postcard. We are leaving tomorrow for the Glaciers but we have decided to come back here for three days after as its lovely. Its a SKI town and reminds us of when we have both been skiing, but its not too cold. Please see the photo of the beach with the snow capped mountains behind, thats how surreal this place is. In the middle of the town, is the Lake, which itself is surrounded by snow capped mountains. Wonderful. We may take a trip to Milton Sound which is supposed to be on par with the WOW Factor of Niagra falls. We may get a car and drive ourselves...all round 7 hour trip! But ... read more

Hello everyone -- sorry to take so long to get a blog entry out. We are trying to get used to this crazy touring schedule -- up very early nearly every morning for the day's activities. Griff was thinking he would get to sleep in, but no such luck! Too much to do and see! We spent a couple of relaxing days in Fiji. It was much like Hawaii in terms of climate, food and activities. Most all of the tourists there are Australians or New Zealanders -- turns out both countries are having school holidays right now. Kind of like our spring break in the States -- only here it's known as end of term holiday. We arrived in New Zealand a few days ago and started on the North Island in Auckland. There we ... read more

Well at least its been the drinking capitol for me. Man what a cool little place. U all know the kind of touristy town based around skiing and what not. Great times. Did some serious parting while i was here. On friday i headed up to Cardona (i think) ski resort in the heart of New Zealands souther alps. I think that made my trip in this country. Total killer weather for skiing. And the veiws were for as far as the eye could see. Totally sureal. The conditions for NZ's spring were quite amazing. Apparently they got quite the dumping this past winter. But the park was primo with giant boxes and the pipe was half decent as well. But I"m totally not used to the style of ski resorts. Basically a mountain that u ... read more

This morning was the Nevis Bungy jump. It was insane. Hopefully everyone has seen a copy of the video. Of course we bought the DVD's of the jump so you'll be seeing them again, and again, and again when we get back! After the jump we drove to Franz Joseph Township - the home of Franz Joseph Glacier. On the way from Queenstown we passed Lake Hawea, maybe the most incredible lake we had ever seen. At least until we drove 5 minutes from it and came upon Lake Wanaka. The lakes were like mirrors -check out the reflection of the mountains in the water. We then passed through Mount Aspiring National Park. We made it to the West Coast of NZ just in time to catch a sunset over the ocean.... read more
