After the Canyon Swing Bungy we walked around Queenstown and met up with Mr. And Mrs. Dunne (aka Chris and Jane) who drove from Te Anau in the evening. We had dinner and drinks and went to the “Ice Bar” which is a bar sculpted mostly out of ice. It was pretty cold and you only stay for 30 minutes in it. It was great seeing the old married couple.... read more

Back on earth we drove to the Karawera bridge where AJ Hackett first came up with the idea of leaping off a bridge tied to a piece of elastic!! The home of Bungy jumping, it started at this bridge in the 1980's. As any attraction of its kind, they had a couple of viewing platforms for those of us who weren't stupid enough to do it. It made me feel sick and s***t cared just watching those mad people! Dave thought about it briefly, but only briefly! Back in town we decided to visit a funky bar called Minus 5. The bar is built in what is basically a big walk in Freezer - everything in there is made out of ice and is full of ice sculptures. You only get to go in for ½ ... read more

Made it to Queenstown and it hasn't rained now for a couple of days! Trying again to get to Milford Sound tomorrow - Pilot says it is promising, but who can gauge the weather here! Arrived in QT this lunchtime (Saturday) after a short trip from Wanaka - Spent a couple of hours walking around Arrowtown (an old Gold mining town) on the way - it is great countryside around here when you can see the mountains and it's dry! More later! ... read more

With all the extreme activities and the long talked about awesome nightlife that Queenstown is renound for, if you have a very small amount of cash to enjoy it, it begins to feel a little like there's nothing to do, which is exactly where we found ourselves. We did a lot in the first week with our bungy jumps and snowboarding but all these things are very expensive, so we were unable to do them again, much as we all wanted to snowboard again! To pass the time one day I went for a very long walk around part of Lake Wakatipu on my own and took in the beautiful scenary looking across to the Remarkables moutain range. Taking this into account we really haven't done very much for a week and feel our time is ... read more

This is just a collection of our photos we have from Queenstown over the last couple of weeks and a few goodbyes to the friends we've made along the way. It was a hectic time in QT with lots of people coming and going - a result of the lack of recent snowfall and end of the Winter season. Al, a young scallywag from England (but actually of the Cameron clan of the Scottish highlands) headed off back to the UK to start his degree at Bristol Uni. I did have a few vids of him doing some sic snowboarding tricks at Coronet Peak but I somehow managed to corrupt them on a CD I burnt, so unfortunately you can't see his backside 360 mute or his 50:50 rail slide. Mark, Shotover Jet bus driver left ... read more

Kaikki mita olette kuvitelleet Uudesta Seelannista, on totta! Following on from the bungy escapade came our next adrenaline busting feat of craziness, the "Canyon Swing" - the largest swing in the world and this time both of us got involved. So let's start with the basic stats - it's 109m high, you experience 60m of freefall and then fall into a smooth 200m arc at 150kph (93mph). For the record, it was a great deal scarier than the bungy jumps that both of us have done, probably because it's so much higher but also because the jump masters are really cruel up on the platform. We'd both fancied this for a while, it looked great fun, everyone we met who'd done it raved about it, the idea that you fell into such a huge arc above the enormous Shotover Canyon and as rumour had ... read more

We stayed for a few days in Queenstown on the shore of Lake Wakatipu. Queenstown is New Zealand's centre of extreme sports, where you can do anything from bungy jumping to rafting to sky diving. We managed to avoid all of those activities but we did spend a day skiing at Coronet Peak, although I seemed to spend more time falling over than skiing as it was only the second time I had done it. We went on a high speed trip on a jet boat on the rocky Shotover River. The Kiwi jet boat driver was crazy and sent the boat flying at full speed towards the rocks only to swerve away at the last moment, missing them by what seemed like millimetres. At times he would suddenly spin the boat round in a circle, ... read more

...ja taman jalkeen kolme sekuntia vapaata pudotusta kohti rotkon pohjalla kristallinkirkkaana haamottavaa turkoosin sinista jokea... Bungy-hyppaaminenhan on yksinkertaista: hyppaat sillalta alas kohti tyhjyytta....helppoa eiko totta ? Muutaman minuutin odottamisen jalke... read more

Hey guys, last couple of days have been really busy, we stayed a night in Haas, taking time to stop off at the franz joseph glascier which was absolutely breath taking, on the way down from reefton to queenstown. The next day we drove on the most beautiful drives I've ever seen and one that is ranked in the top 10 in the world, in towards queenstown through the mountains and around the lakes, we stopped for lunch at lake wanaka which is about an hour from queenstown and went into some shops and most excitingly in to puzzle world! (let me hear you all say a big oooohhhhhh!!) we went there as kind of a joke cos it looked a bit childish, and it really was. But it had some really cool illusion exibits and ... read more
