We got up and started making the arrangements to fly home. We had to go through American Airlines (Quanta’s Partner). Of course the call went to India. The lady on the phone was very nice but inexperienced since it was her first day. It took about 3 hours to get everything booked. We were very fortunate to be able to rebook our flights for the next day. We then booked a flight from Wellington to Auckland and Ron & Sylvia drove use to the Wellington Airport the next morning. Talk about the luck of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. Not only did we get the flights we wanted but Quanta’s was running a $59.00 special from Wellington to Auckland and we were able to check our baggage all the way through to LA. I cannot ... read more

After an adventurous morning of jumping out of planes we headed to Wai-O-Tapu thermal area - a much calmer environment! Here we saw lots of craters and mud pools that were a variety of different colours due to the minerals in the rocks; there were green, red, orange, blue and black, all were very impressive if not a little smelly! The following day we drove down to the coast stopping at Himatangi beach. There was not a lot to do here, so we walked along the beach and then chilled in the sun in the caravan park....a hard life. Next stop was Paekirikiri (or something like that) on the Kapiti coast. We had bought some grub to do a BBQ but unfortunately everything was in place but the gas in the gas bottle - so instead ... read more

Hi All, I think I wrote last time about the Mauri Cultural Centre but had not downloaded pictures from that trip. I have sent a few this time. Hope my pix are coming through OK. I am sending them using Shawphoto rather then the Travel blog. I didn’t think the blog pix were great quality. You will need to highlite the address for the pictures, put that address into your address bar and then go from there. Let me know if there might be an easier way with as much quality. I can’t believe the expense of internet and the lack of it. At this motel, it is $20NZ for 2 hours time. I will put the cut and paste stuff at the bottom of the blog so please look for it. I am also trying ... read more

Well i arrived after what was probably at least a 30 hour journey from heathrow (2.35pm 5th jan) to wellington airport (11.30am 7th jan)! Stopped at LA, then Auckland then on to Wellington. Was met by Ann-Louise and Josh at the airport who drove me back to their place. We then had a stroll round some parts of Wellington as i was quite awake! The City is so amazing, and staying on Oriental Parade which is literally 5-10 minute walk into the centre and just over the road from the sea and a little manmade beach just like 100m away!! its all so fooking ace! Havent actually been in the sea yet though as its been quite overcast most days! have had a couple of real hot days though, was taken on a tour up to ... read more

Hi everyone just a quick update since the hostel I'm currently at has free internet which is great. Right now im in Wellington, the capital of NZ, the southernmost city on the North Island, I hopped off the Kiwi bus for several days and have been hanging out with the 2 english dudes I met in Fiji, so far we climbed a small mountain, went bowling, played some cards, watched a movie, went swimming, and drank some beers. Had some fun nights in Wellington with some people I met on the kiwi bus just walking around and taking random pictures and buying extra large sunglasses from the dollar store. All of them have moved on to the south island which was sad.... Had an awesome new years, didnt feel too bad the next day, not as ... read more

adam and i have been in new zealand for about three months so we thought it was time we let everyone in on what we're up to. we spent our first week in auckland just roaming around and trying to decide where we wanted to settle down. we decided to either go to the south island to christchurch or wellington, new zealands capital just at the bottom of the north island. since we had to go through wellington to get to christchurch we decided to stay there for a few days and if we liked it we would stick around. our first day out adam found a bike shop that was hiring and got an interview the very next day..so of course we stuck around wellington. i found a job at a coffee house which i ... read more

We arrived in the North Island around 5PM, a little later than expected due to the ‘challenging’ conditions on the ferry. Windy Wellington as it is commonly called is the little known capital of New Zealand (no it’s not Auckland) and a surprisingly cultured, happening place - particularly when you have just spent 6 weeks in the south island!! With plans to meet our friends Andre and Bianca who we met at the Nishtha project in India and were now living in NZ, we battled with a few dodgy phones, eventually made contact and met up with them at their flat for a chat and some tea. Andre who is studying at the university had just got himself a new job as a night security guard, so I took him to work for his first shift ... read more

Well, yesterday i started my bartending course. Made black russians (both varieties), nothing special, but lots of bar professionalisms talked about and how to keep up with rushes, and what days are like. A bit more than i typically expected went on behind the bar, but i think it will be easy to do. It goes on until wenesday next week when have to do an exam and a practical. Also, have been hitting the gym lately, and i am super sore, overworked the arms and have been paying for it for the last week as the backs are so sore i cant get my arms to bend enough so that i can wash my face without a bit of an effort. Either way, same old same old here. Finally got a bottom bunk.*shrug* Its the ... read more
