Okay, work is starting to drag on. The repetative action of selling clothes and gear seems simplistic in comparison to traveling. As each moment goes by, i have to remind myself that if i stay here and work, i will get to stretch the experience a bit more. But a small part of my wants to move and move fast to warmer climates and more adventure. I cant say that it is easy forcing down roots when i have been moved to another 10 person dorm room for 2 days because a group is comming into the hostel. Tomorrow i have to shift my gear to another room. I am looking forwards to either confirmation of a full time job, or making a decision to travel a bit more. For now i am filling my time ... read more

Actually we went south...Last time I left you, Alison had just headed home. We decided to reflect on the trip so far and headed for the hills. To be exact, we did one of NZ great walks - the routeburn. It's a 3 day, 2 night hike which is only 33km itself, but has lots of side walks you can do to bulk this up if you feel the need. We only decided to do this on the sun night, so then arranged transport to and from the remote area and had to go buy rations for the next few days. It was getting late. It was dark outside and we didn't have anywhere to stay. The decision was made to pack up our bags that we'd have to lug over the 1500m mountain range, ... read more

Today we drove from Nelson to Picton Ferry Port to catch the Ferry to the Wellington (The Capital) in North Island. The journey to Picton was only about 1hr 30 mins. In Picton there was a mini train ride (FAO. Geoff/Dad/Mum - Like the ones we used to go on down Valley Road) which Helen and I went on. Lisa was in a meloncholly mood and not participating in the fun. The Ferry journey was smooth and Wellington looked really good it was a shame we were there for only 1 night. It was nice to be in a normal city with tall buildings atlast!! The hostel was great...really modern. We got two for one drinks vouchers and a free meal in the bar next door, which was nice. We went for some beers around ... read more

Having spent the night on the outskirts of Wellington last evening, Gina and I found it amusing that our secluded cottage offered an outdoor wood-fired bathtub for our enjoyment. Being adventuresome, I stoked the fire prior to cooking Gina dinner and let the vat of water stew for about 2 hours. While the whole experience was entertaining enough that I may consider installing a similar contraption in a future home, I must admit that the smell of smoke permeated every inch of our skin, hair and clothes. This morning we woke to the Baaaaaaaaaaaaaa of distant sheep - a not too uncommon experience in New Zealand. After a quick stretch and good morning kiss, we began our usual routine of showering and repacking our bags prior to heading for the local Telecom office to upload our ... read more

On arrival we made camp and set about looking for a Lord of the Rings tour we liked. We found it and the next day we were picked up at 9am sharp, by no less than a black chauffer driven vehicle all blinged up! It was really cool! First stop was Helms Deep, a quarry still in use, quite cool really. The main sites were the bridge Lothlorien, the under bridge roots were the hobbits needed to get off the road (fist film), Peter Jackson's house, the boat from King Kong and some really good views of Wellington. Generally a relaxed day being driven around, nice.... read more

Happy New Year everyone, hope you all had a good time and there weren’t too many sore heads the next day. Before our BIG ADVENTURE began, we taped a load of CD’s because the radio is useless and Aunty Tina’s CD player in the car doesn’t work. They wouldn’t let me tape my dance music and only just let me tape Michael Jackson. But we had Westlife, Dirty Dancing, Tom Jones, Queen, Beatles, Housework Songs (don’t ask), Shania and Cher which we must have listened too 4 or 5 times each by the end of the holiday. Our travels began on 27/12/06 and we left Cambridge at 8.30am to travel down to Wellington. The furthest south I had been was Taupo, so after a small stop and change of drivers I was on different roads. The ... read more

Hej allesammen!
