Hello all Arrived in Wellington Friday night after a very calm crossing from South Island. Can be one of the worst stretches of water when the wind is from the south. Before leaving South Island we went to Abel Tasmen Park on Thursday and took a boat from Kaiteriteri to Bark Bay and a walk along the coastal track to the Falls River swing bridge and back to the beach for a swim and sunbathing. Back to Nelson via Grape Escape for a few gifts and fish and chips at Port Mapua - lovely freshly caught. Friday drove to Picton for the ferry via Marlborough and stopped at St Clair vineyard - lovely setting on the Highway 62 for lunches etc and wine tasting. Picton has some good gift shops at good prices and the on ... read more

Well I have spent 2weeks exploring the north island and have had an excellent time - in some ways I don't want to leave here - met loads of cool people, been to loads of exciting places and have taken part in great activities, been ferried around by a fab driver, Royal and generally had a good time. In the south Island I have got cold weather, sand flies and a 3hr ferry ride amongst other things to look forward to. Anyway it has to be done - sure I will have a good time in the South aswell, I can wrap up warm, wear insect repellant and take take a few sea-legs pills and hope for the best on the ferry-ride..... I have heard quite bad reports about the Wellington to Picton ferry. Between the ... read more

Well after a night of drinking, dancing and all the other usual night out mischief we decided the best way to clear the old cobwebs is to get right out there in the windiest place in N.Z. put on a pair of of oversized plastic boots which have four wheels attached to them and investigate what this city has to offer during daylight hours (of which there are few - remember it is winter here). Yep you guessed it we went roller-blading. I have found out the most fun way to enjoy roller-blading if you are an experienced skater is to take with you not just one person that has never skated before instead put a few not so confident folk on wheels first thing in the morning after a heavy night of beer cocktails and ... read more

After being ill in Featherston I went to wellington and checked into the closest hostel to the train station. The downtown backpackers, slightly away from downtown but really close to the train station and ferry port. Went to McDonalds, about the only time I eat McDonalds is when I’m hungover - the fat, sugar and salt content of a value meal seem to be just what my body craves when recovering from too much drink. I purchased my meal - super size - walked towards a free seat and dropped the lot. Enough - I was starting to think that my run of bad luck would just continue - but then the nice manager gave me the meal again. I walked more carefully to the seats and started to feel a little better as the junk ... read more
