Wow, it's funny how long it seemed to take for this trip to happen but the last few weeks have flown by. Work has been very busy so I have to do a fair bit of overtime and whilst increasing my cash flow, decreased the amount of time I've had to get everything organised. It's insane thinking about everything you need to take with you for a month on the road but it was when I realised that I had taken about six lipsticks I decided that I needed to be a bit more ruthless about what I was taking. The difficult thing is catering for all the weather variations - the UK has the tendency to be coldish (though temops don't look too bad at the moment) and Thailand will be hot! So I have ... read more

So, I flew up from Sydney to Cairns, then went on a tour up to Cape Tribulation. It was good fun. Got to swim in a surprisingly cold river, go on a boat tour of another river where we saw a number of crocs, including a huge 6m long male called Fat Albert. Also saw a wild Cassowary, an ancient and endangered flightless bird that can apparently disembowel you with a single kick of its 5 inch long claw adorned foot. Nice. Then I got a bus to Airlie Beach. See next episode...... read more

Hey All Claire and I have been enjoying be free to travel once again and have been making the most of it. Yesterday we went on a fantastic trip to the blue mountains just outside Sydney. It was a long day starting with us being picked up at 6.30 and not getting back till 9, but it was well worth it. The views of the mountains and Sydney at night were great. It started with a picknick by a river at the foot of the blue mountains. Then we were taken to Australia's much smaller version of the grand canyon. Next we headed to Scenic world where we were taken on the World's steepest railway, walked through the rainforest and had a ride on a cable car. Scenic World affords the best views of the blue ... read more

hello everyone, sorry its been a while since ive posted anything. I guess when i started this blog i was on holiday and exciting things were happening almost every week - sadly that dream has died and melbourne winter has taken over. The change had alot to do with starting my new job as well, as im now working 5 days instead of 4, which means work takes alot more time out of the week than used to! I have managed to adjust to this new lifestyle now though by making the most of the weekends. Another reason i haven't written anything for a while is because i haven't taken any photos for a long time, and i was fairly confident people didn't want to read a few paragraphs of pointless rambling - which is what ... read more

Avatar. Apparently it means 'perfect form'. To me it's just a beautiful boat. More specifically a racing trimaran yacht on which I just spent 3 exhilirating days cruising the whitsunday islands. The skipper claimed to have had it up to 35 knots. We made about 18 knots, which still felt pretty bloody quick!!! The first day was lovely and sunny and hot. We went to Whitehaven beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Almost completely pure white silica sand and sparkling green waters make it absolutely stunning. The next day was raining and windy. This just made the sailing all the more exciting. A few of us just sat for ages on the pontoons which would rise and fall quite dramatically, showering us with spray. Loved it!! Did a bit of snorkelling too. ... read more

Not surprisingly, I never finished the Hokkaido set. Maybe I will once I get my own computer. I did take some nice pictures in Kyoto, so I'll try and get those up, but this photo upload system is so inelegant and time consuming. Anyway, I'm in Australia now, and have been for over a month. I spent a few days in Sydney, where I visited Koala Park, saw Superman, and played videogames with an Australian friend from Japan, then caught a cheap plane to Adelaide, which is a couple hours west of Sydney, I believe. I eat lots of cereal, filling the void that Japan created, and can again afford to eat vegetables and fruits. However, overall, I find the food selection here to be lacking. The most common lunch item is the meat pie, or ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Magnetic Island September 1st 2006

We decided to spend a few days on Magnetic Island, thanks to the recommendation of Liz whom we met on the sailing trip of the Whitsundays (thanks Liz!!) We got our little Matilda(the camper van) on the boat and we think she really enjoyed it - we're sure she was smiling! After a short crossing we headed for the campsite and had an absolutely amazing few days. Magnatic Island is pretty small but so beautiful. We had a great time just wandering and looking at all the wildlife. We went snorkelling for a day - the first time we'd managed it without a boat full of people with us. It was amazing - I might just have another go at the scuba diving?!?!?! We took some time to chill out and then we went for a ... read more

Still in St Kilda and I have a bunch of pics from there too...stupid computer, oh well! I'll be back! xoxoxox Yay for computers that actually work!!! Much like every time we ever take a taxi in Melbourne the taxi driver wasn’t quite sure where we wanted to go which was quite confusing seen as we wanted to go to the City Bus Depot. He dropped us off in the street, luckily enough he was just about right and we made it. The bus was pretty deserted so we got two seats each…nice! Ruth was genius ... read more
