Morning, yesterday off we all went to Swan Valley which is the wine region. On the way we saw wild kangeroos, happy nibbling grass on a golf course, not bothered about the golf balls flying everywhere. We went into The Vines golf resort to look around, they seem to have loads out here, but appear expensive to be a member. Then we drove past wineries and popped into a chocolate place where they made chocolate and there were big bowls of it to try. I could never work in a place like that because I know I would be eating it all the time, everyone said 'no you wouldn't, you would be sick of it' but I know I wouldn't. Anyway with that, I brought a bar of chocolate !! We then went into the winery ... read more

Oh yes forgot to say when we came out of the winery after lunch we saw a bush fire starting quite some distance away, roughly about 18 - 20 miles away. Out here they have a large amount of fire volunteers Who don't get paid. When we have seen houses in amongst the trees, you wonder why people want to live like that. Stick me in a city with plenty of concrete !!.... read more

Good morning, yesterday myself, Stu, Mike, Dorothy and Chris went to a place called Fremantle which I suppose was about a 50 minute drive away. We were armed with plenty of sunscreen on, I put 50 on and Dorothy gave us some salts to drink. It got to 36 degrees yesterday during the day and it did have a slight breeze, not like the previous day. We really liked Fremantle, it was buzzy, loads of outside cafes and restaurants and bars and street entertainers. They had a nice market which sold food as well as leather goods and jewellery and other bits and pieces. I could have had a field day there, but we're on a budget !! We had lunch there before moving onto what they called the round house which was a small prison ... read more

G'day across there, woken to a lot of wind here this morning, blew a huley last night, so not sure what the weather will be like today but no doubt it will be hot. Last night it was 32 degrees, didn't look up what it was in the day as we were walking in it and I thought I was in a desert !!! We went to Kings Park yesterday to get some views of the city and to walk around there. I took loads of photos but I am sad to say I think I've 'cooked' the card in my camera because last night and this morning I just cannot get the I - pad to read the card, so I fear I have lost my lovely photos and I was like a japanese tourist ... read more

Good morning everyone, woken up after a good sleep, Perth is hot, apparently there is still a bush fire going nearby, not that we have seen it, so I don't know how 'nearby that is'. We have come out to see Stu's cousin Michael, his wife Dorothy and their son Chris. They have a daughter Sian who lives up in Cairns. The flight was good, took 3 1/2 hours, easy travelling with domestic flights, mind you I was pulled over at the airport, the man threw some literature in my face, waffled on about who he was which I never got, and then checked me over with some instrument for explosives including my flip flops, yes really, my £1 primark flip flops. Of course I came up negative on the machine. When I caught up with ... read more

Spent a pleasant month at Club Capricorn Yanchep while we waited for xmas and New Year to pass. Nice area with very good public transport. Bus stop outside the resort to Butler train station and then train into Perth central. With a senior card a day saver cost $4.70 for use till midnight on day of issue for bus, train and ferry. We got bus and train to Fremantle, had 2 different tours of the gaol, really interesting. Fremantle has free bus doing tourist areas, museum very good. Joondalup shopping centre on the train route, just been extended to largest centre in WA. We checked it out one morning before the xmas rush started, easy to get lost.there.!!!! Went to Rockingham on the train, very nice esplanade area then on to Mandurah, also very scenic. We ... read more

The Story So Far.... So it's been a long time since I've put anything up on here.... over 5 years to be precise. This is not an indication of a lack of travel, nor is it an indication of an absence from the site, merely a lot of paying off the last big trip and saving for the next. During this time I've managed a number of smaller trips to neighboring countries such as Indonesia and Singapore but in essence these have been single purpose visits, whether for a Formula 1 GP or a boys week away. It's also been noted that with my last trip, the blogs stopped coming.... the main reason?? As the trip is called "RTW til the money runs out" I'm sure you can imagine. After spending 4 days in transit, sleeping ... read more

So the decision was made, after promising for 6 years, we would come and visit Perth and our good friends Lisa and Zippy. The first shock was the heat or lack of it. Well, not exactly as it was still in the mid 20's, but having come from 30+c and high humidity we were forced to go invest in a jumper or 2! Picked up from the airport and driven to Woodvale, north of Perth, it was an informative ride having met the new mini Zippy, Cameron. This 3 year old has a vocabulary of a 10 year old and knows everything about everything. We even had time to go through all the bones in our body prior to arriving home. Sleepy after a 5 hour delayed flight we had a warm welcome and a well ... read more

Oh, it must have been some party last night. There is not one bottle of beer left in the house. Well there's about a million empty bottles but none with even a drop in. The only alcohol that appears to remain is Rudi's secret stash of 4 bottles of spirit, only untouched because we ran out of mixers at around 3am. I'm up first - clearly I didn't drink nearly enough as I'm sober as a judge and hangover free, and appear to still be thinking about Kurt Cobain being Jewish....or not... I set to work on a bit of a clear up - first stop washing up the early hours Scottie barbecue, next stop the bottles... Fortunately Dave woke up not long after so he and I managed to fill the recycling bin to the ... read more

Today was no ordinary day. A tale of adventure, laughter and a day trip to Perth airport awaits... take a long deep breath, and enjoy what has got to be the longest and funniest day of my trip so far.... This morning I moved on from Lindsey's house and onto Joondalup, north of the city, to stay with Mel and Dave for a few days. The weather today isn't so bad - about 30 degrees - however it's not necessarily the ideal temperature to lug what has become about 35 kilos of luggage across town via foot over hilly terrain and 2 separate trains. I could have taken the easy option of grabbing a cab - admittedly high luxury on a backpacking trip - and I came mighty close to doing so as the sweat poured ... read more
