I cant remember the last entry, but think it was around coral bay just after we broke down, wchi is ironic....but we'll come on to that. Since coral bay, we have ventured south through monkey mia and down to perth arriving well ahead of schedule. We had a great night out at The Deen, dancing to reggae music and falling in love with african girls...i need to go to africa. We decided to do a little loop out to Hyden, wave rock, and down through Denmark to Augusta, Maragaret River and back up to Perth. The sights along the way have been beautiful, some of the most picturesque scenery i have ever seen....along with the wine, honey, cheese, toffee and ice cream tasting i had a great few days. Once we arrivedin Augusta we settled for ... read more

Hi - It's been a busy week in Western Australia. I'm based in Bunbury, a smallish town southwest of Perth. I flew straight to Perth with only a quick stopover in Sydney. The Sydney harbor is beautiful - full of boats in every cove. I took time to visit Perth and Fremantle before heading for Bunbury and the sailing program. Not too much to do in either place, although I found an art gallery in Fremantle with wonderful aboriginal art from various parts of Australia. The art from each region has a distinct style based on the aboriginal people's mythology. When I got a break here in Bunbury, I had an opportunity to talk for a long time with a local aboriginal artist about his work and his family's history as it relates to his style ... read more

We checked out of the apartment and headed out of Perth, driving into the carpark area of the WACA by mistake - I am still having a few problems with standard road signs (and driving an automatic, but that is a more embarrassing issue). We headed south down the coast line at a fairly gentle pace arriving at Bunbury around lunchtime.Parked up and pottered through the centre of town, stopping for a healthy lunch at Gribbs. Apple, mint and ginger juice with a spinach and feta wrap for Lisa, nachos and a chocolate shake for Richard and Eden. Hit the Tourist Info hut to sort a room for the night and they did us proud with a great little cabin on a camp site opposite the beach where the dolphins hang out - cool!! Had a quick ... read more

The following morning it had finally stopped raining long enough for me to walk to the garage and pick up the car. Next stop was the Perth Dive Academy to order the rest of my diving equipment. I now have everything I need to go diving and a very empty wallet. Oh well its only money!! I had intended to stop in Fremantle for the night but on getting there I really didn't like the place and with nowhere to park I just continued out the other side and eventually stopped in Bunbury. By now it had started to rain again. In between storms I managed to get a walk to the beach. The ocean looked evil. Massive rolling waves crashing in on the rocks. This looked more like the North Atlantic than Australia. The hostel ... read more

My car tour of the south-west took place in a white Corolla hired from Bayswater Car Rental, a company whose adverts contain a naked woman and the words "No birds" - I can only assume that a bird is Australian slang for a car that doesn't run very well. Not sure where the naked woman comes in though. With it being a holiday weekend, arguably it wasn't the best time to be on the roads but I saw nothing resembling a London rush-hour. The owner of one of the Italian restaurants that I'd eaten at several times in Perth had advised me to see Mandurah. The weather was glorious, so strolling along the inland marina, with its tree-lined walkways, shops, restaurants, and public barbecues, was pleasant indeed. I would guess that it's some sort of commuter ... read more

We have moved down the coast to stay with Sue and Lib and see all the rellies. The house is like living in an episode of cribs! We were lucky enough to see a dolphin and its 10 month old baby at the beach. We've fed the kangeroos and isobel was bitten by a talking parrot. We've had loads more barbecues and have been eating out quite a bit. Grandmas 80th birthday went well but I missed the first half with a bad hangover. We were up late the night before playing cards and drinking beer. We went to Margi's and ended up chucking everyone in the pool. We went to buffalo beach last night to watch the sun go down. The surf was very powerful nas nearly washed Jake out to sea. The kids played ... read more
