Relaxing times were had at the house sit in Bunbury over the past two weeks. The house was very comfortable and the dogs kept us entertained but also on our toes as we tried to keep them from barking and disturbing the entire street. Amazing how much noise two little creatures can make.....the sound of a feather landing on a pillow would set them off! Rachel also did a fantastic job giving one of the dogs medication that she clearly did not want to take. It was a little game in the end and the little pill would be strategically placed among some various meat pieces and then we sat with fingers crossed that it wasn't spat straight back out again. Being relatively close to the city we took the opportunity to have the van serviced ... read more

Hard work moving on after staying in a cracker of a place but all good things must come to an end. We slowly worked our way back down towards Bunbury in the morning (Friday) and stopped off in beautiful Pinjarra in the Peel Region. The town has the Murray River flowing through it down from the scenic hills and is full of history. We've pencilled this in for a stay at a later date. We made it through to Australind for lunch and stopped to enjoy the tranquil coastline yet again. After that we checked into another local caravan park. Polar opposites to the accommodation from the previous night but not too bad in the grand scheme of things. After an early dinner we hit the pavement again for another evening jog.....it's a whole lot easier ... read more

We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience of living on a one acre property and doing all the tasks that went along with it for this house sit. Hats off to the couple who live here.....the gentleman is in his 80's and on average Rachel and I put in about three hours of work everyday to keep things running smoothly. All the animals needed to be fed and tended to and as previously stated there were dogs, cats, fish, birds and chickens. Walking the dogs was a relatively easy experience and kept us fit and healthy as the loop their owners take them on is roughly six kilometres. On the second or third day the pups decided to try and jump ship to freedom; however, after a lot of waiting and calling along the path by the ... read more

The last few days of the house sit was spent doing all those little incidentals around the house and in the van preparing for another move. If we were ever thinking of relocating this would definitely be a spot high on the list of preferred destinations. The owners of the next house sit rang in a mild panic as there were issues with one of their passports and one of the dogs required an unexpected procedure after getting an infection in his eye. They needed to leave a day early but given we were just down the road it was an easy fix. On the day of their depature we hopped on over to feed the dogs and give one of them his medication. There doesn't appear to be a problem with the dog taking his ... read more

After arriving for the house sit on Saturday we have simply spent the majority of the time taking it nice and easy and enjoying the creature comforts of home while caring for the pets and garden. It is a stunning area with the majority of the houses overlooking something similar to Linear Park back in Adelaide and there is also an impressive walking trail which we have been taking advantage of daily. The owners arrive home next Monday but today we went to meet the couple for our next house sit which is only 10 minutes up the highway. The vision for the area appears to be a semi-rural one with the houses on approximately one acre blocks. The house and property we will be staying in is spectacularly maintained. On the animal front we will ... read more

Prior to moving on Thursday morning we took a small drive to Rosa Brook. We arrived at the quaint general store and the owner came out to fill up the van (no self service, haven't seen that since I was a kid). The store was something to behold with the interior seemingly untouched since the turn of the previous century; bare wooden floorboards underfoot and unfinished wooden shelves displaying the fresh produce on offer. We then moved onto Margaret River for a walk up the main drag. The surroundings in this area are stunning which makes going for a wander all the more appealing. My ulterior motive for this stop in town was the independent music store which again left me lighter in the pocket. Our next destination was Bunbury as we have organised a few ... read more

After the obligatory pack-up this morning we took one last opportunity for a swim at Flinders Bay and then moved into town for a few incidentals. The local bakery came through with flying colours for lunch and I had one of the best pepper steak pies I've ever eaten. We had intended to push through to Bunbury but we had heard good things about a little caravan park just out of Margaret River. Big Valley Caravan Park is owned and run by some local farmers on their property which is predominantly sheep grazing (a few thousand). The gentleman we spoke to was super friendly and he showed us through to our site. Fresh country air, powered sites, showers, toilets and a camp kitchen for $26 per night....can't complain. After settling in we took our chances cycling ... read more
