it's raining today. i knew it was going to be a lazy day. by now some of my roommates have checked-out and new ones have checked in - a couple of girls from the UK and some guy i never got to meet. had a lazy morning. got a nice long brunch. i decided to get a haircut and had my hair dyed blue - finally! i've been wanting to do it for a long time. it turned out really good. i'll post a photo here as soon as i get it uploaded online. in the afternoon, went to downtown Melbourne. it's about 20 minutes tram ride from where i was staying (St. Kilda). i walked around the "touristy" area. it's a nice city. kinda feel like Vancouver - just a bit. it's actually tied with ... read more

Hiya all, Sun 12th Dec We drive into town today and on the jetty people are fishing there is also a boat taking people out parasailing, hmmmm. I get taken to the local gallery and craft shop, only small but really cute. After the trip into town we all go to John and Judys friends who live just around the corner. The bloke brews his own beer so i get given some stout to try, yum very nice, i seem to be getting into drinking everything now. I get given a few of these and then have to go back and eat before i get too drunk as it is only lunch time. After lunch we all go and take the dog for a walk, the beach is less than 5 mins walk from their house ... read more

had ham & cheese croissant for breakfast. added a cappuccino and i was happy to part with my AU$6.85. the tour bus picked us up from the hostel @ 10:25. there were four of us from the Base hostel. after a few more pick-ups around town, we headed west to start our Great Ocean Road tour (AU$75). there were about 18 people altogether - people from Ireland, UK, Australia, China, Japan, Korea, France, Singapore and me). The couple from Singapore gave me their phone number when they found out that i was going to their country. the sceneries were great. although it got a bit misty and cloudy by mid-day which makes all the photographs flat and ugly. i did see some wild koalas and wild birds (parrots, etc...) who joined us for lunch. on ... read more

i must say that it was a great flight. the almost 15-hour flight went by so fast. we had dinner (chicken & cheesecake) and breakfast (sausage and vegie tart). i read the in-flight magazine and watched the movie about a guy who walked across Australia alone (South to North). it was raining when we touched down @ close to half past nine (that's how aussies say it). getting through customs was a breeze - all i heard from the customs agent was: "here ya'go, enjoy!" while handing me my passport back. it didn't take long for me to find the SkyBus that'll take me to downtown Melbourne. from there, i took the tram to St. Kilda (about 20 mins tram ride towards the beach @ the south end). it's a happening place where my hostel is. ... read more

Hello everybody, I said i would maintain email contact, and so far i haven't really, but i guess it's only been just over a week. Nothing really too eventful to say so far. I'm in melbourne, in a beachside town called St. Kilda. It's really nice, although it's a bit of a trendy place. Full of trendy clothing shops and cool cafes. Places to spend money, when i don't really have the funds to spend money, or the room to accumulate things. But there's always just hanging out at the beach. But there hasn't really been much, if any nice weather yet. A bit of rain, and quite a bit of grey skies. I think i have about a month until consistently nice weather. I'm not minding it too much, because it's still better weather than ... read more

Time seems to be rushing by now with 11 more days left. We are currently in Melbourne staying with Helen. Went to Healsville Sanctuary today returning home in torrential rain. Anyway, back to Hervey Bay........ Fraser Island was really different, but enjoyed the day driving around and on the sand dunes and beach "highway". Saw a real wild Dingo, a ship wrech and lots of birds. We then rented a car and drove down the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane. Stayed one night with friends of a friend near Cooroy. These friends have a little dog and to cut a long story short, Val, who had been told to keep her hands away from the dog didn't and finished up getting bitten and having to get five stitches the next day. All is well and her hands ... read more

Tuesday, 26 October 2004 Today I took a pleasant four hour drive from Melbourne to Lakes Entrance. Checked out the centre and it looks like a busy three days coming up. The Budget Motel is four star accommodation and is next to the eastern end of the lakes. My evening meal was at the Waterwheel Beach Tavern on the shore of Lake Tyers. The weather is muggy but I think sleep tonight will be without too many problems. Wednesday, 27 October 2004 After sleeping well, I woke around six o'clock. Outside it was raining heavily and I noticed the window had been left open all night. Arrived at the centre and talked to the director about the next few days of photography. I decided to work this centre differently. Didn't worry about how many shots I ... read more

In Echuca, Vic. Spent something like 10 hours on the bus getting to Melbourne and then had all day in the city to wait for my bus to Echuca. First impressions of Melbourne - FANTASTIC! So much going on! There's the fringe festival, an arts festival, something like 5 sports stadiums, and an outdoor music venue near the botanic gardens. Another place I wish I had more time to check out... I've got to return to Australia in the future when I'm rich. It was a shame saying goodbye to Paul after such a short time. I'd only known him for a week but he was such a gem of a travel buddy: easy going, lots of laughs. Hopefully we'll meet up in Melbourne at the end of the month when I go back there. Work ... read more

Sunday, 10 October 2004 This morning I had to photograph a communion at a local church. It was after mid-day when I left for Bendigo. A three hour drive through Yea and Seymour. The weather was warm and no traffic to talk about. I was going to stay at a Best Western Motel but on approaching the outer suburbs of Bendigo I drove right past the motel and finished near the Kindergarten I was due to work in the next day. I noticed a Golden Chain Motel across the road and enquired about accommodation. The only room they had left was a family unit. So for the price of a single bed which was eighty dollars a night, I thought it was good value. It was a large room with a clean bathroom. There was also ... read more
