Today was a new day. On my walk to the tram I took a differnt route. On the route I saw this public restroom that looked very high tech. The door even looked like a space ship...kinda differnt. On the panel there was some writing. Look for that description under the picture in the caption. From here I took the tram to Collins street. I was originally looking for St. Michaels but didn't find that because I went the wrong way. I also wanted to go to the Observation deck on the Rialto but the weather was not cooperating. The observation deck is a room on the top of the Rialto building where you are able to see 360 degrees around the city. Since the weather wasn't so nice I decided to just walk over to ... read more

Hello folks, first blog hier, first of all; Australie is een cool land! (see picture :) Positief bevooroordeeld stappen we uit because we want more! Hm, waar te beginnen...eerst inchecken en niet gaan pitten ... read more

Hi Everyone Right, for those of you who don't know. Goon is the bags of wine you get in boxes for cheap, cheap, cheap. Remember, slap the goon, not the kids. Anyway, life continues in chilly Melbourne. I've had some great and spontaneous nights out. There's a bar that has a rooftop bar with spectacular night views of the city. I went to see a local band that my friend Beth is friends with called Worlds End Press (myspace them for a listen). Been out in the city a bit and also that reliably cheap hostel bar. All starting to take its toll now, but mustn't faulter yet, as it's Neighbours Night tomorrow night. Neighbours night is held in a pub in St Kilda every Monday. Alot of the cast attend and even perform if they're ... read more

The time has come for an update from Melbourne as I have been here a total of 7 weeks now, double the intended time but as I've learnt travelling plans just cannot be made when you are backpacking a country. As a follow on from my last entry I finally got a diagnosis from test results as to why I had been ill for so long......I had salmonella food poisoning from Fiji and as it had been so long it had been multiplying in my bowel - that explains why I felt so rotten. The Doctor prescribed me with very strong antibiotics which I had to stay out of the sunlight whilst I was on and made me feel ill but it cleared it up and I can almost eat everything again. Going way back to ... read more

We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Docklands. It used to be commercial shipping area but has been turned into upmarket residential apartments. The Telstra dome is there too. I found it quite deserted, and it was almost a relief to get back to the Melbourne city area, which is full of people any time of the week. They are building the Melbourne Eye in the Docklands - a competition to the London Eye. It seems strangely placed though, wedged between the highway, rail yards and the back of apartment buildings. The photo shows you where they are up to in building it - will take another year or so to be operational. Other than that, the Melbourne Docklands has eerie statues and architecture, a nice playground and a row of restaurants. You might want to ... read more

I can't believe that it is the weekend again already. I literally have no idea where the past week went. Monday I spent time sleeping recovering from a weekend of camping and I also worked a bit on a big review sheet assignment that was due in my philosophy class. Berrak also came over that night as she's quite lonely in her new living arrangement. Tuesday was back to class again and more working on this review sheet. Wednesday I had class and also spent some time sleeping as I did not feel so great- my allergies are in full swing. Thursday was FINALLY the last day of class this week. The week seemed like it went so quickly but classes this week seemed to be so slow. I think it's because I know it's coming ... read more

The weather is very fickle here. It seems like it's always beautiful on the weekends, but cold and rainy on the weekdays. Obviously not complaining but find it interesting. Anyway this weekend was no exception as you can see from the photos it was bright and sunny. On Saturday, I went down to Docklands. My tour guide book had a walking tour around this new developing section of Melbourne. This is supposed to be based on the harbor of Sydney when it's all done. Right now its mostly still being built. They are building a new Farris wheel that will be the largest Farris wheel in the southern hemisphere. Just slightly smaller than the London eye. Other than that it's mostly luxury high rise condos built around a bunch of docks where rich people park their ... read more

Well Yesterday S.Paddy's day was well celebrated here too. hope u had a good craic over there as well I guess, I was forced to watch the Irish team playng cricket against Pakistan.. anyway. On Sunday instead there was the Thai Festival in Federation square, it was a nice way to remember the smell and the flavours of the Thai experience. The Docks are pretty nice, design, offices and lots of restaurants. I want to take the opportunity to rise my simpathy for the case of David Hicks. Don't know if his case (like many others actually) it's on the press overseas and basically I dont know if its guilty or not. its not the point for me. the thing is I dont think its fair he is imprisoned in the Guantanamo bay without any possibility ... read more
