Msalato Porridge Fee- As mentioned in our Blog page of July 3rd 2013 we, Holy Trinity congregation and friends and colleagues in the IT industry raised the necessary US$1,600.00 to fund the next 12 months 'Porridge Fee' at Msalato kindergarten in Dodoma, Tanzania. This fee provided 45 children with a hot meal of porridge every day while attending kindergarten. Also as mentioned in subsequent Blogs, on Jess's retirement from C Smart, Paul Lemaire C Smart MD & Matt Holani C Smart Executive Director, generously offered to fund the 'Porridge Fee' through C Smart in subsequent years. We just wanted to let everyone know that the donation for the 'Porridge Fee' 2014/2015 year has been received by Holy Trinity from C Smart and Holy Trinity will arrange payment to Msalato in Tanzania. Thank you so much to ... read more

Today we crossed the border into Victoria and have now set up camp in Mallacoota. (On the coast 20 odd kms from Genoa). A very nice little holiday and fishing town that I just happened to pick off the map:) Mallacoota is only a small town, but has "four" van parks. We are staying at the A'wangralea Caravan Park, which is a small but very nice and friendly spot right beside the shopping area. Not like the Foreshore Holiday Park which is huge and would populate one or two kms of the town foreshore. We much prefer ours:) On our first day of exploring, we visited the tourist areas and beaches etc. on the south of the town. I must say, they have done a lot of work to set up excellent walk and bike paths ... read more

Geo: -37.5587, 149.75430th December Howlong - 9th January MallacootaHappy New Year to you all.We have been in a communications black hole for some time (with the exception of a brief stop at McDonalds) both for wifi and then even mobile signal. When we reached Mallacoota the first site had wifi but was charging £13 for 2 hours. Apologies for the delay in posting the Christmas blog.As you might have gathered the extensive Riverina area, although beautiful in its own way, and providing plenty of birdlife, was starting to make me feel claustrophobic. Strange really as it is a huge open flat space but I did start to feel that it was oppressive. However the scenery soon changed as we headed south east and after visiting the Wonga Wetlands (where we saw 2 turtles climb out the ... read more

First big trip is a road trip road trip to Sydney and back. We targetted the coastline closer to Sydney, and therefore spent the first day covering many miles, or kilometers as it were, over 400 of them. While we had to spend many hours in the car, we did find time for some fun and leisure. There are many wine regions surrounding Melbourne, so our first stop was at a winery for our lunch break. The wine was good, we even planned to buy a bottle, but the dining room service was uninterested in serving us one of the available window tables. Rather than give our money to a classist establishment, we instead slummed it with cheese and salad wraps on their boardwalk through the boggy tree palm patch. Fruit stands dot the highway as ... read more

We didn’t leave Lakes Entrance until late morning… mainly because it was so hard to leave behind the cosy armchairs and TV!! Once on our way, we stopped at Cape Conran, a coastal park with beach, rocks and walking tracks. We walked around the coastline to a lovely secluded spot with rock pools and what looked like fossilised trees. Other people had built pretty stone stacks, so I added one too. On the way to Mallacoota, a car overtook us and caused a pebble to hit our windscreen. There’s a slight chip but thankfully it hasn’t moved yet. It’s a bit of a déjà-vu from our Christmas trip to New Zealand. This has never happened before, and now it’s happened twice in a row! It was late afternoon by the time we reached Mallacoota. As the ... read more

Not in Kansas anymore I encounter a wallaby and a wombat on my walk to the bricked bathroom. I stop and take pictures until I notice the wallaby is deliberately moving closer to me (the wombat snuffles along uncaring, munching the grass). The wallaby’s nearness makes me nervous. I know it’s used to handouts but I absolutely do not want to encourage it. It’s a wild animal after all. These campground followers are too caught between tameness and wildness. The campgrounds are still sleeping and I walk to the beach, reveling in the open expanse. The tide has pulled in. There are only two other people walking about, a pair of men zigzagging along. I stretch on the sand and watch as the sunshine hits the cove cliffs. On the little beach entry path back, I’m ... read more

Well we packed up in the rain (heavy at times) and did a different loop to exit the caravan park. The rain stayed heavy all the way down. we stopped about 20 kms South of Edan, for morning tea. We certainly were pleased we had done the look around at the area yesterday to see the Pinnicles and Boyd tower, because it would have been uncomfortable doing the bush walks in the rain. We crossed the border and entered Victoria with out having to show passports, and proceeded to Mallacoota down a winding road that tested the driving skills and the van brakes certainly grabbing again, but never mind we arrived safely and booked into the park. A very large park on the edge of a headland, a lot of vans and boats. Definately a fishermans ... read more

17 - 19 November 2010 We arrived in Mallacoota where we camped out for 3 nights right on the foreshore of Mallacoota Inlet. This place is amazing with beautiful beaches, good fishing (not that we caught anything!) and lots of sunshine. We are starting to love any place that throws a little sunshine our way. Oscar has really been in the wars at Mallacoota - split his lip in one incident, then his chin in another incident, then smashed his head on the road which cut his forehead and left him slightly in and out of consciousness. Never a dull moment with our little dude. Can't believe we are already in Victoria. Feels like we've seen so much already and covered a lot of ground but to look at the big picture, we've covered such a ... read more
